You can always just swap back and forth for smog. I did that when I lived in NorCal with my 996, plus the countless other cars I ran with DP's over my 18 years there. Its a bit of a PIA, I suppose, but the Porsche was easier than the VW's and Subies I had back in the day.

Beware that California now does a check sum on your software which will tell the State if you have a tune ... automatic fail. This data is sent directly to Sacramento during the test so there's no over ride option.

This!!! Memory tells me this applies back to 1996 with the introduction of OBD II. Also ...

2. Yes, the basturd started doing the check sum thing last year ... but it only works on models that support check sum reporting. Probably late model cars would support it, but some 2000-2005 models do not.
