Default 997.1 Headlight Lens cleaner/Bulb Upgrade?

What is the best Headlight Lens cleaner for the 997.1? Maguires or Griots?

Has anyone upgraded their Bi-xenon headlight bulbs? What a good option?

Thanks

Tim

Most of the headlight cleaning kits are all the same basic components. Various grit sandpaper, polish, and a foam pad. You can get pretty much any of them but add on some headlight clear coat spray to lock in your results long term. Otherwise, you'll be doing it again regularly as you've sanded away the UV protection that is impregnated from factory.

As for bulb upgrades, there's lot out there but I went with the Philips xtreme vision bulbs because I prefer the slightly warmer white (4500-4800k) light. The output is really good as well which is a big plus. There's also the Osram competitor which has similar output but a more pure white (5000-5500k) output.

Just go to the auto parts store and get some sandpaper. Pull the lights out of the car and wet sand with 600 or 800 grit to remove the old coating, then wet sand with 1000 and then 2000 grit to remove the scratches, then polish with Novus or Plast-X plastic polish. You can even use some 3000 or 5000 grit paper, that may make the final polishing easier, but it's probably not necessary. Sand in one direction and then switch 90 degrees each time you change grit. Keep the sandpaper and lens wet and spend the most time on the coarse grit as you want to remove all of the original coating (you'll see the sanding residue will be yellowish, that's the original coating).

If you search online there are a lot of how-tos but it's pretty easy, especially since on the 997 you can just do it with the headlights out of the car.

Once they're clear I've found Optimum Opti-lens coating seems to last the longest, I get about three years out of it parked outdoors. It's also very easy to apply. Not the cheapest option but most other coatings don't last that well.
