Default PDK Shifter with leather gaiter.. Looks Nice!

Maybe you've seen this before, but this is the 1st time I've encountered this mod and wanted to share. Why should the manual people have all the fun modding their shift *****, Short shifter kits, shift cable, bushings, PTX gear oil,...etc? PDK crowd can spice up their shifter too with this tasteful (IMHO), stock-looking, and cheap mod. All you need is the leather gaiter and the shifter surround bezel. This idea is from a Facebook group "Porsche 997.2" by a member called "Scott Phipps". If anyone is interested in doing this conversion, I am sure that plenty of us would have a spare used leather shifter gaiter or shifter surround bezel. I for example, have a black shifter surround bezel and an OEM Sand beige leather gaiter in my spare parts box if anyone is interested.

I did the same on my 981 to cover the shiny silver around the PDK base that would blind me if the sun hit it just right. Plus it adds another texture to my center console. It wasnt cheap though, as you cant buy just the boot for a 981, so I had to buy the boot and shift **** plus a a little filler "Cayman" logo that fills the gap between the PDK and the manual shifter base. About $425 all in for mine, but I love it!

The combo for 997 is $200 with shipping on Ebay Shifter frame leather + boot new leather and includes the gaiter/boot frame, but the shifter surround bezel is not included. it can be bought for cheap on ebay too Shifter frame. I am sure they have other colors and material as well.

Think I have a spare black leather shift boot. $60 shipped if someone wants it.

I did a similar mod on the auto shifter in my 928.

Essentially the path Porsche went down with the 992 GT3 PDK, i.e. make the PDK boot look like a manual.

I still have an urge to cry when I see a GT car without a MT. I know, I know. Faster around the track.

Yes, to clarify, I was talking about my 981 which is very different in design and dont want to discourage anyone based on my reply. It's great that you guys have much cheaper options available!

I am sorry RAdkins, I sold and shipped my trim yesterday and didn't take down the part number. However, just to be clear, you'll need the Shifter console trim or frame, and a shifter boot with the plastic inner bezel where the leather is stapled on. Here are the parts needed for this conversion:

I bought the one above (thanks again, Leonard for the quick shipping and advice!), and got it all installed today. It does look nice. I did happen to snap a pic of the part number.

Cool mod and thought I give it a try.. it appears the collar around the shift book needs to be removed?

Yes, it seems that the plastic collar where it attached to the bottom of the shifter **** must be removed. The boot can be tied to the PDF lever using a zip tied from the inside the boot.

The shape of the boot itself tends to keep it in place, but if you folded more if it over to the inside to take up the “sag” shown below then yeah something to hold it up might be required. I started down this route but then how to tighten up the zip tie? The clips that attach the boot cradle to the console are typical PITA tight and fragile plastic and I’d already broken one of them, so decided to leave well enough alone. Recommend if you go this route to do it before snapping the gaiter cradle into the console.
