Hi, the entire exhaust system (manifolds w/ cats, central muffler, and side mufflers) are the same for all 997.2 Carrera models + GTS.
I suggest you check all available options on top of the US brands.
I suggest the following in Europe, now that the US$ / € exchange rate is favorable.

Many options out there for the 997.2 (non-GT3/Turbo) cars but I'd say the tried and true setup is some PSE/Fister/Gundo mufflers paired with a center muffler bypass. Many folks run this and it is a great sounding and relatively affordable setup.

I am also a newbie 997.2 base owner.

After a year of listening to exhaust sounds on YT or research on this forum I’ve narrowed down my selection to 1) Fister exhaust mod + aftermarket center bypass, 2) FVD Street Sport PDK muffler or 3) FVD Street Sport muffler

One plus on this! I put Fister mufflers on coupled with Billy Boat center muffler bypass pipes. I think it is awesome, so do my neighbors.
Poops and crackles on deceleration.

I ran Gundo mufflers + SharkWerks center bypass for 1.5 years on my 997.2 C2 6MT and loved it. The tone was perfect, no real drone, sounded amazing at low revs, mellowed out a bit at high revs and was never obnoxious. I recently switched to the FVD street sport setup because I wanted some more volume and drama. While I got that from the FVD (and the FVD sounds awesome as well), I do miss what I would call the more characterful flat 6 tone of the Gundo + SW setup. The FVD just has a slightly different tone, a bit more boomy given it eliminates all 3 of the mufflers and uses only 2 small resonators.

PSE plus Sharkwerks X-Pipe center bypass. I love it. Juuuuust right for me, at least.

YMMV.

Not just right for you. I have the same setup and love it too. Some say the Gundo hack is a great substitute for the PSE sounding "close" to the same. Others say there's a big difference between the hack and PSE combined with the Sharkwerks bypass. I haven't heard the Gundo/Sharkwerks combo in person so can't comment on that. You Tube videos are next to worthless imo. as far as getting a good idea of exhaust sound.

Highly subjective topic where I think money enters the picture along with opinions of the actual sound. You can get the hack done for $200 or much less in some cases while two PSE mufflers will set you back $2,550 as currently priced at Suncoast.

997.2 C2S MT.
I have Fabspeed 200 cell headers & genuine PSE cans.
Fitted a TopGear center pipe before acquiring the FS200 headers. The tone was OK, and a little louder, but not earth shatteringly so.
Once the 200's went on, there was a huge difference in available noise once the car went from cruise up into the "boogie" rpm range, but the note was just way too coarse and grating on the senses when PSE was open.
So much so, if I was going to give it a blast to pass traffic on the highway, I'd actually close the PSE valves beforehand, it was that bad.
Removed centre pipe a few thousand K's after fitting the 200's.
Now I think I've arrived at the happy medium, sporty and sonorous.
Nice bistro strip burble etc on a minutely open throttle when slowing.
Grabs the casual aficionado's attention, but it wont make their beer go flat.
Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand to attention in the hills tho.

Jonas, you hit the nail on the head. Exhaust tuning is so subjective and there are many different paths you can take to get there. I think the common theme is if you want a more aggressive sound/tone, start with PSE or equivalent, then gradually add center muffler delete, followed by performance headers (with or without cats). If you do it piecemeal, you can dial-in your ideal sound and know what component makes a difference and how vs doing everything at once. I ended up doing the following and am completely happy with my final solution. Sounds good at city driving but when I open it up above 4,000 RPM, the system screams and sounds amazing. With the software tune, there are very subtle burbles, not obnoxious at all.
  1. Top Gear center muffler delete (recommended)
  2. Top Speed performance headers with 200-cell cats (not recommended due to CELs. Go with a well-known brand like Soul, Tubi, Fabspeed)
  3. GIAC custom tune (enhanced and sharper throttle response, slight bump in peak power but noticeable, improved exhaust tone and volume, plus no CELs)

How does a software tune change the tone and volume of the exhaust?
