OP,

IMHO, have it professionally done. The film will not hide the dr. colorchip repairs unless they are finished off to being flush...by a professional. I seriously considered doing it all myself.

When I had my XPEL replaced at 9 years , https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...py-ending.html , the new XPEL is even better than the film installed in 2012. 2012 had the full front done. This time I paid extra and had the doors, A pillars and leading roof edge done. I had no issues with how the film looked overtime except as noted in the link.

You are not just buying the film, you are also paying for a company that will stand behind their film, including labor.

For those who have the PPF done, how does it look like after after some time goes by? Does it age well? or does it become muddy like the rear quarter stone guards in need for replacement?

The new Xpel has a 10 year warranty.

I bought my 05 C2S in September of 2021. Paint was ****e! I had the hood, fenders and front bumper repainted. I then had xpel put on for $1400, guy even came to my local body shop to do it for me which was nice as I didn't have to drive an hour to get to him, leave the car, and then come back to get it. He did full hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors for that price. And yes, 95% of the edges are tucked under. there are small portions that aren't tucked and there's a reason for it. Best money I've spent on protection. Just my 2 cents. I certainly would never have attempted this myself.
And whatever you do, do NOT do just half the hood. I looked at a car to buy that had that, looked awful, very clear line where the ppf stopped halfway up the hood...

What frybear said.

Looked at a black 911, full front fenders 1/2 the hood. A big distraction to the car's looks.

Here is what a half clear bra looks like on a black car after 15+ years:

May very much depend on the color. Have had half the hood done on my GT Silver 2005 c2s since before I bought it in 2012, so over 10 years ago. I can't see it in any of my photos.

That looks criminal. Worse than what I fear it would be. It would probably cost more in labor to remove it than to replace the film.

FWIW I just had my 2005 17yr half hood PPF taken off (came that way from the dealer) and replaced full PPF hood. Did not look anywhere near as bad as that though, still saved half the hood from chips and came off with no problems (done by pros).
But I agree, I would never do just a half hood...do the full thing, especially if resprayed . In the end you are net not saving much, if anything.
