Default Fister vs. Soul Mufflers

Has anyone had the chance to compare these two mufflers? I noticed that Soul has the same bypass. I currently have Fister.

Thanks Rick

I'd love to hear a side-by side of Fister and Soul valved with the valves closed and open.

I think he's talking about the gundo style extra pipe, not s PSE type valve as Fister doesn't offer those, but I believe Soul does

That's honestly the comparison I want to hear. I'm on the fence on which direction to go (clearly there's a considerable cost difference), and would love if the planets aligned and a car with each happened to be in the same place at the same time.

If you have PSE, then the valved Soul doesn't make sense. If not, Fister/Gundo always on and valved Soul on/off selectable.

I have the gundo hack. My buddy has the soul. It’s significantly louder and more badass and without drone. In fact I’m so into it I bought a soul. Will be selling my gundo cans soon.

Gundo is great if you want minimal. But even the soul valved is just as loud as my gundo. Or just about. Soul open is amazing.

We love Darin over at Fister. He is probably one of the most chill and fun guys to work with in the industry, and I've thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with each other over the years. I would recommend his service on factory muffler replacements to anybody and expect them to be very happy. We as a company also feel there is a notable market for brand new muffler replacements as well. Factory mufflers in used good condition are getting harder to find for modification, mufflers out of Germany are getting harder to get ahold of and more expensive, some people have mufflers that have broken without a good core, and some people just want to keep their factory mufflers unmodified and buy a new set. This is why we developed a non valved muffler replacement for the 997.2 Carreras, and are in development on non valved muffler replacements for the 996 and 997.1 Carreras as well. We also have a valved version for the 997.1 Carreras, and are considering this on the 996 Carrera as well.

To clarify some of these comparison in the thread I've just got a few questions that could help.

RADjr, is your car a 997.2 or 997.1? If 997.2, what are you looking to accomplish over what you currently have?

misterdega, was your friends car a 997.2 or a 997.1? If a 997.1 I assume it was the valved exhaust system he installed, and that was the same that you installed as well? Very happy to hear you guys are enjoying it, please send us some videos/photos of your cars to marketing@soulpp.com, perhaps we can do a feature!

Petza...no questions, you da man haha.

For all interested, here are links to our 997.1 and 997.2 product lines with more to come

my buddy has a .1 had it installed over at torrent in upstate NYC. I’m still waiting for mine! But when I heard his in person, that was all I needed to get me buying.

don’t get me wrong, I love my gundo and it is a great sound. I autocrossed last weekend and got tons of compliments. But I just went with soul to get that extra presence.

Videos are great but don’t do it real justice. In person these things will shake your chest. In person is the real way to experience.

That is the type of feedback I was looking for. I like the Fister mod but need a little more. BTW - I do not have PSE.

Thanks

Hello John,

I have a 2009 997.2 non PSE car. Exhaust is the Fister mods and center muffler bypass + 200 cell catted Top Speed headers. Car sounds really good but I would like a little more. I saw your 997.2 muffler on eBay and noticed you also had the bypass between the pipes, similar to Fister.

Thanks,

Rick

I’m just coming on here to say that John from Soul Performance is the man! I spoke to him personally and was very helpful when I purchased the 200 cell cats and later the performance headers for my 997.1. I have those paired with Fisters and the sound is amazing. The nice thing about the Fisters is that you can be as quiet or as loud as you want depending on how you use the throttle. The thing about a valve exhaust is I would probably have them open 90% of the time. Whenever the time comes that I need to replace my mufflers I’ve already decided at that point I will be going to the Soul valved system.

I also have the SOUL Performance Headers, SOUL 200 cell cats, and Fister mufflers on my 2006 997.1 (4.0L). Sounds GREAT ....though I do find myself purposely creeping quietly through my neighborhood.

"Different strokes for different folks" as an old song used to say.

Personally, spending $2.2K - $2.9K just to make a bit more noise/sound versus a GUNDO hack just doesn't make sense to me. About 5 years ago I removed both rear cans on my 2009 C2, bought two feet of 2 inch SS pipe, took both to a very reputable local muffler shop with pictures from this site of GUNDO hacks, re-installed them and started making beautiful music.

Cost: $80 plus $10 tip and I've had more money to dedicate to the other "enhancements" I've made... But hey, that's just me!

BTW: I forgot to mention that during the muffler removals I also replaced the big and clunky rear muffler with a set of Billy Boat Cross Pipes that at the time went for $565 shipped.

Our side mufflers improve tone for sure.

I have our X-Pipe, gundo-hacked side mufflers and will be adding our sport headers soon. The Gundo and X-Pipe is a good alternative and the performance gains for the 997's (997.2) are in the headers and cats anyhow. On the .1's it's going with high-flow cat sections and headers.

My .02.

Dave--is there a video anywhere of your headers, performance cats and the stock 997.1 mufflers? I'd like a little more sound than the stock setup, but I also like the small performance gains out of the cats.
