Default Where to find engine number

I am showing my ignorance, but where on the engine block can you find the engine number? I am inquiring as I want to find out what type of IMS bearing I have. I have a 2006 997S, purchased new, and all the certificate of authenticity said was that is was an M97/03. Thanks for any assistance.

^^The engine# is not always easy to read like the one above
If engine numbers are hard to read due to road debris or staining, use the flash mode on your phone camera to take photo - This can help in reading the numbers.
