Default Battery Dead - Issues Opening Frunk

Happy Tuesday Morning. Over the weekend I went out to take my 2011 997.2 C4S for a spin and to rinse the salt off the underside, but found that I left the lights on when I (hastily) moved it between garages one morning last week. I figured this out after I put the key in the ignition and it didn't turn (I'm super observant) and then the key was stuck in there. I pulled the fuse panel in the drivers side foot area and found the red jumper connection. I hooked up my (brand new) Battery Tender Plus, and tried to connect that to the connection and door hinge, hit the frunk pop button... and NADA. Then I went to the local hardware store and grabbed a battery charger with a 100 amp (Schumacher 100 Amp Automatic Battery Charger) and hooked that up. Still got no response on the Frunk button. My next try was going to put the jumper cables from my car batter to the connection points, but I ran out of time last night. Any ideas on why I'm having issues with this (seemingly) easy issue?

You’ll probably require an actual 12V power supply, like another battery or power supply that provides a continuous 12V. Chargers/maintainers do a lot of analysis and don’t provide constant 12V. I suspect that’s where your problem lies. I’ve used the fuse box jumper to pop the frunk before with no issue. I’m sure jumping it from another car will work.

I would get a jump pack. I have two of these, one for the car and one for the boat. Works like a charm! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

AMP997.2C4S, Charger, maintainer won't do it . You need to jump with a fully charged battery AND most important you must use the frunk button on the remote key fob to open NOT the frunk button on the doorsill.

Thanks everyone for the quick help. Bomar - with my one key stuck in the ignition, is there any issues using the FRUNK button? should I use the 2nd key if it's disengaged when in the ignition?

Search is your friend.

You are going about it all wrong.
- It is not possible to jump or charge via the red pullout/pin
- To open the frunk via red pullut/pin, you need a healthy and stable 12v source. A charged up jump battery is more likely to work than anything else.
- RTFM carefully.

CAVU - thanks for the link. I think I have it now. Key FOB and a charged battery will hopefully get this FRUNK opened so I can charge the battery.

Sure bet is to grab the battery out of your other car, and use jumpers as stated. Pull that red post out FIRMLY. Make sure the jumper clips on horzontally, to contact the two terminal pins on either side (they are not present on top or bottom). The negative clip should be well grounded and the door arrest hinge is a good place to attach to.

You will know if it is about to work for you, as when you connect the battery, you'll hear the relay click.
Press and HOLD your frunk opener on the key fob until the frunk pops open. Either key will work.
If you connect them up in reverse polarity, you may blow your ignition lock.

Friendly hint: Once your battery is charged, right before connecting it back up, have your key on hand to press UNLOCK to stop the LOUD alarm, which may sound instantly.

AMP997.2C4S, yes I believe the stuck key frunk button should work whether it is in the ignition or in your pocket, be sure to hold it down for at least 2 Mississippi count

How to do it is in your owners manual with full details. Deciding to do it differently (Why?) always results in failure. That is why they went to the effort to explain how to do it. That works 100% of the time.

There are several videos around now showing how to attach an extra release cable that you can hide behind the right side running light just in front of that wheel. I've written it up here several times if you use search, but the videos are probably easier to follow.

Key points ...

1. Use a Sharpie to mark where the washers are on the latch mechanism before removing the latch. This will allow you to reinstall the latch without needing further adjustment.

2. Look at the frunk lid to bumper alignment first so upon reassembly you don't panic when you realize the lid sits a bit lower. Also notice that there is a bit of play when you push down on the frunk lid.

3. Use a flashlight with wire coat hanger to fish the cable over to the removed side running light. Wrap the new cable around whatever works for you to hold it nearby.

4. Relax knowing you'll never have to go through grief getting the frunk open if you ever have another dead battery.

A discharged battery will often recover a bit once the draw is removed. Leave the car alone for a day and try the frunk button again.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone! Greatly appreciated. I got it all figured out last night. A couple of things to note is that with the key stuck in the ignition, the frunk button on either key fob would NOT work. But once I hooked the battery up to the positive terminal in the drivers side footwell and the negative to the door hinge, I was able to remove the key from the ignition. Once the key was out of the ignition I was able to use the frunk button on the fob to open it up and get the battery charged up enough to start. Other things I found out, for reference to any future owners with this issue - the PSM Failure light came on after I started my car back up from the dead battery. A quick search stated that it should turn off within 10 minutes, and it did (but did require me to take a spin in my 997.2, poor me).

Again thanks for all the help on this. Next project is to figure out which Lloyd Floor Mats best match the Natural Brown Leather from the 2011 year. I have samples coming from Lloyds to do a match.

Glad you got it working! if you have a spare battery great but I would look into the jump pack I posted above. easier to maneuver and all you have to do is charge it every once in awhile. And it's portable so good for road trips if you are worried about your battery. As for Lloyds, unfortunately they don't have the license any longer for Porsche so while they are nice mats, and I have a set with the Porsche lettering, they don't do it any longer. Ebay has some with the logo but I think they're only in black.

Have you considered Cocomats? They really add a nice touch to the car and elevate the interior quality. And they are quality mats themselves.
