Default Joy Audio Apple Carplay vs. 9XX Research?

Car Fanatics did a great install video of this 997.2 Apple Car play install of the Joy Audio unit --
. The unit can found at https://ecarguides.com/product/porsc...onversion-kit/ for about $500. This is cheaper than the $800 9XX Research Carplay unit at https://www.9xxresearch.com/products...uto4-for-pcm31.

Does anyone know if there are functional differences between the Joy Audio vs. 9XX research? The install for the Joy Audio doesn't look too bad!

EDIT -- NEVER MIND, I see some discussion on comparisons here -- https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...id-auto-7.html

I installed the Joye Audio solution in my Panamera several years ago and it works very well. It's a bit involved but certainly can be DIY. 9XX reviews have also been very positive the the owner makes house calls for installations IIRC.

I installed the NM Automotive kit today. Love having android auto now!!

The most difficult part was finding a home for the external box. That was a real pain!

Hello, I put it behind the ventilation control unit without any problems.

Personally the top is NM Automotive, unichip based, communicates with the can bus for the rear view camera, no need to pull a cable to power the camera, that alone proves that better

Interesting you got it in there, I couldn't and ended up taking the glovebox out and wedging it in a gap there. Was a real pain! Still love the end result.

Yes, very easy but you have to pull the cables behind the pcm first or it will jam

Anthony of 9XX installed his solution for CarPlay and
backup camera last Monday. I am very happy with it.
When I put my 6 speed into reverse, the camera appears
automatically . All functions of CarPlay operate as expected.
I can toggle off CarPlay and gain all original PCM functionality.
Anthony is a perfectionist with his product. I assisted him
the install, so I know that all is done in the best way possible.
I am very pleased with 9XX.

I'm wondering how these older models compare to the Mr12volt version. I imagine the newer ones are better but 9xx seems high quality in terms of design

mrvolt seems like the best kit to go with if youre doing this today.

I installed this one from AliExpress and it's the cheapest one I'm currently aware of. Works as expected, but also not sure if there's any magic the other units may or may not have. At least they "seem the same". Installation was easy and the same as the known videos.

The JoyeAuto is likely the cheapest way to get Carplay integration with PCM 3.0, and functionally it does the same job as the 9xx unit (Unichip). I have the 9xx unit, and what I like about it is its compact size makes it possible to stuff it behind the AC control unit (all cable connections are on one side!), enclosed within the metal frames of the center console stack. This makes for a really clean installation, with no chance of the unit moving around. I'm sure the JoyeAuto unit is secure within the footwell area too, but the 9xx installation gives me the peace of mind that the unit is nowhere near the pedals.

Has anyone tried this out? I believe its a board only with no external box. Any personal experience?
