Hi, I have a 997.1 4S which originally had PCCB from the factory, but some time down the line it got swapped for steel.
Now the steel fronts have worn out, and I'm not sure which kind of rotors to replace them with.
My dealer says I need 997.1 GT3 brakes and has quoted 99735141090 / 99735140990.
When I go to sites such as Design911, they have a category called PCCB Replacement, which lists ie. this GiroDisc replacement, which seems great but is several times the price and is of the floating design. Is it worth the cost compared to a plain ventilated disc such as this? With the latter I could replace them five times over compared to the floating design. And yeah I might track it, but is tracking it equivalent to death by warping of the cast type, in modest amounts?
Also there is certainly some weight saving to be had in unsprung mass, but since it seems most people in most situations can't feel the difference between PCCB and steel, I'm guessing this will be negligible.
Also wondering about pads, I want great stopping power with reduced noise and brake dust, for street only. Any recommendation are appreciated. Is Pagid RS good? Any other options? How are the stock pads? They seem very expensive.

PCCB's are not worth the cash or effort to switch over for street use . Your stock 350mm steel brakes perform wonderfully and better than needed for street only use and the odd track day . The issue with PCCB's for street use would be the they truly start to perform when they get nice and hot so useless you are driving like a maniac on your block your brakes haven't even nor will they get up to proper operating temp.
Just get some oem Zimmerman , Sebro or Brembo disks with either Pagid , Zimmerman pads....I like TRW pads myself ... and enjoy . There will be many varying opinions on brake & pad combinations . I like the OEM brakes just fine for street use and those puppies can stop pretty damn well when needed . Not that far off from my sports bikes when compared which is really good for Stock ! As for brake dust I ceramic coated my rims and calipers which has minimized dust really well and makes it just fall off with a garden hose.

The car has the PCCB calipers, but with steel brakes, so I'm not considering buying carbon rotors, but rather choosing a good performance steel one.
I agree Zimmerman seems to be a good option for me at a great price. With pads, I don't want so much dusting and squealing, and better initial bite than what I have today. The OEM pads are (with taxes to where I live) maybe $800, so I am sure any other premium manufacturer would be less. The performance manufacturers make different series of pads, I'd appreciate any direct recommendations.
I can't be sure of the specifics of your application but for my 2005 S...
I used these Hawk Performance Ceramic pads (much less dust with no braking sacrifice for street and autocross): HB667Z.622 D916 (front)
HB664Z.634 D1135 (rear)
I used these rotors: Sebro coated and slotted - 909330C, 909331C, 909324C, 909323C
Need to know what year and model the car is. Early 997 Carreras used the 350mm PCCBs from the 996TT and all 4 corners are 350mm. Later 997.1s moved the front size to 360 or 380mm versions.
Also, there's a huge undoing weight difference with PCCBs vs steel, even two piece steel like Girodiscs Going from OEM wheels with steel brakes to forged wheels with PCCB brakes is very noticeable in steering feel.
Then there's the advantages of never having to replace the rotors if street driven, zero brake dust, etc.
In this case I understand the OP is not looking to go back to ceramics due to the cost - that's fine, but needs to know which version of PCCBs came on his car to get the right replacemens.
As an alternative to Girodiscs (which I tin on my 928) look into dba (disc brakes Australia) that I run on my wife's 997. We're on her second set of rotor rings with the same hats.

I believe all 997.x Carreras with PCCBs had the same sized PCCB rotors all the way through. For example, look at the compatibility list for these front and rear replacement kits:
Thanks for all input. Based on the total cost I’ve decided to go with aftermarket cast discs and ceramic pads. I’ve sourced some very barely used Pagid oem pads. The alternative would be the Hawk pads, they seem great for my application.
are things such as clips, bolts and vibration dampers necessary to replace? I haven’t done this before on this car.
