Less Traveled Roads?
While we all have heard of Tail of the Dragon and Angels Crest Highway, not all of us are blessed with living in close proximity of the wonderful areas and roads. I was just reading nwGTS 's thread and saw a brief post about Ohio 555. he spoke of it glowingly and I thought, how may other wonderful roads are there out there that I had never heard of? How many are near me? Well the answer to that one is about none because I live in SE Wisconsin, but the next question is How many are within a day or half a day's drive? I'm hoping we can get some interesting roads and their locations, particularly in the Midwest. This can give some of us twisty road challenged Porsche owners some destinations to visit and another reason to spend time in our cars. I'm looking for more places to go or if I drive far, more fun ways to get there. This could be for everyone's benefit, lets make a list of the lesser known roads but just as fun that only the locals know of.
I'll go first. SE of Lacrosse, Wi has some fun roads. If you plan a trip out that way, especially from the Chicago area, it's a pleasant surprise to have such fun roads so "close" to northern Il and SE Wi. No particular roads except Hwy 39 between New Glarus and Mineral Point is fun. The entire Driftless region of SW Wisconsin is fun and about as close as I can get to home. This an area that the glaciers missed between Madison, Wi and the Miss River. The only non flat part of the southern half of the state.
Please add your roads as well and keep his going if we can

Moving from Arizona to Kansas soon in less than a month, so also interested in examples in Midwest! But I'll add one in Eastern AZ that was spectacular - Coronado trail, where I saw less than 1/2 dozen cars in 120 miles.

I like the roads that cross the Blue Ridge Parkway alot more that the tail. Every road that crosses is straight up and straight down. And the Cherohala Skyway. I like 80, 226, 151 276 215. All are fantastic.
And I also like Arkansas Scenic 7, Hot Springs to Russellville, and the Pig Trail, Arkansas 23 from I40 to Eureka Springs. And 62 from Eureka Springs to Rogers

Re: Pashnit & the Bay Area roads - I swear this is the year that I do the Highway 4 - 395 - 108 loop. Anyone up for that drive in the spring? Seems like spring might come early given the complete lack of snow in January & forecast for February so far.

I've done most of these on a motorcycle rather than in a car, but Ohio's windy 9 are a lot of fun:

OP, in the same boat, not many interesting roads here in the Prairie state either. There are some around the Galena area Rt 20. Further south, the run between North Utica (Starved Rock area) & Ottawa along the Illinois River is nice Rt 71/Hiawatha Pioneer Trail.

Thanks, that's helpful. Anyone else have anything east of the Mississippi?
