I’m hooking up a battery tender and the power cord might keep me from closing the front trunk which means there’s a little light on inside it that’s going to stay on. Is this a problem?

 

I do the same...Light goes off after a while. There's folks on here that have run the pigtail so it can be accessed from other areas, but I haven't gotten around to doing this yet. You can also plug into cig lighter and close door over the wire (there's a notch for it but cant remember which side)

 

Yeah, the light goes out after awhile but it’s several hours. I ran my battery tender cable to the base of the windshield, near the wiper arm, like discussed elsewhere on this forum. A search should get you there.

 

You can remove the light by prying it up from the lens up bottom edge with a small blade screwdriver and then unplugging the connector. Wear thick leather gloves for the unplugging if it takes more than a few seconds as the connector heats up quickly! I just leave it this way as the light serves no purpose for me.

 

If you are willing to spend a little time routing the wire it can be hidden here. No need to open the hood to hookup.

 

I do the same. The cover lives in the glove box.
Waaay easier than dealing with the frunk all the time.

 

Light will turn off, I opted to do it this way as I have ready many posts about the battery failing and then it’s PITA to get the hood open

 

You can also feed the battery tender box through the opened hood between the windshield and area by wiper on drivers side. Good amount of space for it to fit and tender box can sit on base of windshield when hood is closed.
The hood closes/latches closed with no problem and plenty of area for the tender cord.

**Main problem I have had is getting the positive & negative clamps to sit low enough when attached to battery terminals so the hood doesn't touch them when closed.
This is really important to make sure they are not coming into contact with hood metal.
After messing with them I was able to get mine to sit down low enough so I can close hood with plenty of clearance.

 

The easiest thing to do is get yourself a CTEK charger with the cigarette light attachment and run it into the passenger side foot well receptacle. You can then shut the shut the door on the cable. The door gasket is pliable enough to accommodate the thin cable.

I do this on all my cars, 991, 997, 996… it works beautifully.

 

There is a little cut out in the gasket towards the very front of the door which I believe is designed to accommodate the cable without adding stress or potential scratches from the power cable exiting the car. That’s how I’ve always run the tender w my 911’s

 

I just close the trunk on the trickle wire. It does not crimp or tear the wire. Never had a problem over many years.

 

I have been closing the trunk on my tender for 10 years now, no issue with the rubber gasket crushing or deforming.

Just run the tender leads between the wipers and reach in that area when needed and pull out the lead and connect . This also gives you the option of locating the charger under the frunk closed if you also wish . Easy as pie , no need to over think.

Personally I never did like the Porsche / Ctek chargers method of using using the lighter and running the cable out the door way , Direct to the battery with an inexpensive battery tender and leads I have found on all my toys is the best and easiest way to go.

 

Decided to go the side passenger foot well receptacle route but would like to know if anyone has had any problems with extension cables from Amazon.
