Default Matte or Shiny?

Take a look at my rubber A-pillar window seal. After 10 years it is starting to deteriorate but, which way? I assume it had a harder shiny finish that broke down, but is the inverse true? I would like to know before I restore, it certainly does not respond to 303 or any trim restorer.

Matte or Shiny; which is OG?

I believe the trim is matte from the factory. The surrounds on all your glass should be a similar finish otherwise it might look "off"

Ah, good question and I’m following. Mine also looks like yours. Back to Black didn’t save it.

Thanks for the input. I'm still torn - it does appear the shinier rubber is the original finish, and over time it has weathered naturally. This car has lived under a cover/garage all its life so I don't believe it is sun related, just deterioration of the rubber.

I should not be so petty...

OG is satin black, not matte or glossy. This is what my trim looks like and it is in pretty good shape.

My '09 cab trim pieces (those same exact trim components) are doing the same thing. It's wear de-lamination that's occurring.

All of the rest of the trim on my car is in pristine condition.

Thanks for the response(s).

I'm striving to locate them online, just to know what the price is. The same for me; all other trim is immaculate, only this piece has the delamination issue. They probably can be gently sanded and re-protected once they get bad enough.

I'll shut up and drive now, I think.

You should be able to clean that. Take a look at Nextzett rubber cleaning products. And you can also try to clean and preserve wit h 303 Aerospace Protectant. It may take some insisting, using a towel or foam applicator.

From Nextzett:

Aktiv Autobalsam

and

Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Stick

Use Aktiv Autobalsam with a towel to clean the rubber trim. It will take some energy and several applications to fully clean it. That will be enough and going forward reapply it periodically. Or, once clean, coat it with Gummi Pfledge.

Ironman, a 3 year old prevents me timely addressing these types of projects, so I would be keen to see your results, thanks in advance for posting!

ADias, thanks for the product insight, I appreciate it.
