Default A single exhaust tip darkened outside?

I am a newbie to 997.1 and the forum, so please forgive me if my question is naive.

I recently see a condition on a 997.1 I could not explain. One of the exhaust tip on the left side is blackened outside comparing to the other three tips. Can anyone explain how this could happen? This shouldn’t be the “left side uneven soot” issue right? I think that is referring to the inside of the pipe.

You can see the 2nd one from the left doesn’t shine.

This is the left pipes bottom view.

This is the right side which looks normal to me.

Picture is pretty fuzzy but I can’t imagine that coming from the exhaust since they are two tips coming from one pipe and split right before the tips.

Asymmetric sooting is sometimes/often associated with bore scoring.

Yes, but in this case both tips on either side share the same exhaust tubing. I don’t see why one tip is sooty and the other isn’t when the exhaust splits inches from the end of the tips.

It looks like in the middle pic that there’s an exhaust leak (black soot) at the clamp connection where the tip meets the pipe. That could be what’s causing the soot to mark up that pipe.

There is likely a technical explanation about the per-tip asymmetry that rests on fluid dynamics/air/exhaust flow but I suggest that's less important than the side-to-side sooting difference. All that said, are there any blockages (or installation differences perhaps) at the "tip" level that might influence the exhaust flow?

AFAIK, they are all stock, so unless they are different out of the factory or someone did
something…but, that’s why I found it interesting to see if someone knows more.

Fluid dynamics will only be solved by a floor of Cray hardware.
Real world fix? Always have a rag in your pocket, worry about other stuff.
