Default Fuel Pump?

Fuel pump?

2006 4S. No mods done, in the last 4 months and about 1000 miles.

Had the car out today at the track. Filled up (not over filled) drove about an hour to get there no issues. Parked it sat for an hour, started fine did a couple parade laps back to the paddock. Car sat for another 30 min went to start and took 2 tries (started ran for 3 seconds and dies) 3rd time stepped on the gas and the car ran but with a 1500rpm idle. Pull to the pit lane and it’s revving up and down. Shut it off. Try to restart same 3 sec and dies. Start it with some pedal and again high rpm go back to the paddock the long way and the car is surging and dies. Start it again and I can hear all the misfiring, CEL comes on pull into my stall shut it down and put the code reader on. Misfire on all cyl. Clear the codes and the car starts up perfect. Drive it around the parking lot no issues.

30 min later back in pit lane, car starts up runs fine do a very spirited session and no issues.

2nd session car starts up normally and runs fine for first 4 laps and then on the 5th won’t rev over 4K. Pull in to the paddock amd shut it down( no codes) Done for the day. Waited about 30 min and drive it home keeping it under 4K rpms no issues. 60 minute drive.

Let it sit for 30 min in the garage starts right up, no codes, idles fine refs above 4K in the garage.

Sooo….thinking the fuel pump stating to go bad don’t think I hear anything unusual from the front of the car. My code reader does not read fuel pressure. Will better ones, if so I have access or must it be done manually(hose and bucket system)

Looking for anything I may be missingthat may be wrong(fuel pressure Reg, fuel filter, bad gas…….

Could be fuel pump, but also sounds like something electrical...

Track work, hot car, fuel vaporizing when car stopped and heat sinks throughout?

Sounds like fuel pump. If you can make it do it again, see what the fuel trim numbers look like. If they're very lean that means it's not delivering enough fuel. If the fuel trim numbers look good (1.00000) on both banks, then it may be something electrical. That high idle 8s an indicator of a lean condition if you've ever run an engine (dirbike, snowmobile, lawnmower, etc) out of gas then you know it surges to a high rpm right before it dies.

Replaced the fuel pump. Starting issue seems to have gone away, but at 4K rpms the car struggles to keep increasing speed and rpms. Still no codes.

That's right about the range where the variocam plus kicks in. Might be a problem with the variocam solenoid(s) or maybe with injectors.

So went out today and ran it hard. Did lots of pulls up to 6k and now seems to be running fine. Maybe I had some bad gas and the ecu was trying to compensate and just took time and fresh gas for it to work itself out. I don’t know. Will keep on it and see if it reappears.
