Belt squeel on start up only
I replaced all the idlers, but it still squeels, Best guess any one? I replaced the Alternator but I guess the big ticket item is the culprit.

Is the tension lever sticking? A more common issue than you might think, make sure it springs back when you take the tension off, if not replacement is the option..

I had a similar problem, recently had the belt and tensioner replaced. sorry I don't recall exact details but apparently there is an improved tensioner. My independent shop did the work, I don't have the paperwork with me to provide more details.

You sound like a serious DIY, so why not do some troubleshooting?
Remove as much of the air filter box that you can in order to get to some of the spinning devices while the engine is running. Use a stethoscope (not a screw driver, not a length of hose), touch it to the mounting bolts of what ever spinning bearing you can find, including the alternator and the water pump, you will hear whichever is bad. A smooth spinning tone is fine. A loud, shifting tone is not.
For the ones you cannot get to with the stethoscope, remove the airbox, and the belt. Spin the pulleys by hand. You wan to see smooth, slightly dragging motion. If it spins freely and loose, replace it.

For me on my 997.2, it was the water pump. I don't know if the startup chirp/squeak came from the pump, or the belt from the pump's resistance (failing bearing)... but it was caused by a failing water pump. I changed the pully and the belt..... no difference, still chirped. The pump will smooth out when it gets hot... and it will quickly.
About... I dunno... a week later, I could smell something burning.... again, the belt or the pump? I put a stethoscope on to the running pump and could here a metal-on-metal sound... like bearings with no grease. It did not sound all that bad but it was there. The .2 pump is a totally different device.. really well built. The stethoscope is like $4 from Harbor Freight and you can just lay down in your driveway and do it.
Peace

My car just turned 72K miles. I have no evidence that the waterpump has been replaced. I will start there. It could be time to replace. I will also check the tension lever.
Quite frankley I did not even think I could run the car with the airbox out becuase of MAP Sensor etc.
Thanks guys, looks like I have a project for when the Hurricane hits!

.1 or .2 ?, that makes all the difference. none of the parts in question are carry over from one model to the next.
