Even when they work, he has had complaints from clients that the units are "slow" to respond to different functions regarding changing applications, music stations, volume, etc. They generally do not work as well as the manufacturers claim and never as well as the units they are replacing.

He had not heard of Dynavin either. He usually recommends Pioneer units as they seem to work better than the other vendors; interesting that is what the high end Porsche installer said as well.

I think I am back to "square one". Maybe I will just wait and see what Porsche comes out with next year since I do have a 997.1 model. I have heard good things about the Porsche classic radio for the older Porsche models.

I am going to investigate a "temporary solution" with an FM modulator. I remember @ 15 years ago when my kids were just starting to drive I bought them all FM modulator units for their cars so they would have hands free access to their cell phones.
I will be tempted by the Porsche unit - if and when it comes out and at what price. I wanted to keep it as original as possible so I took the quick fix route and bought the Mr12volt unit (also known as LApower). There are a number of threads on that and it gives me connectivity to the PCM via my phone - it displays what I'm listening to on the PCM - plus it works with the phone for hands-free. Works like a treat and it is around £125 in the UK, probably similar or less in US. Available ion Amazon. Better option than the FM mod if you are going to wait - plus you can always sell it if you decide to upgrade.

I saw this as well, but I can't find the original thread or the article. However, I do remember reading that Porsche was working on a PCCM+ for the 997.1 and that they are tentatively planning on mid-2022 for a release date. This is the route I will go if it looks good and has the functionality I'm looking for. I'm not even concerned about a backup camera or wireless carplay, so my requirements aren't out of line with what is already available on the PCCM+ for the 996. I usually plug my phone into my charger when I drive anyway, so plugging in for carplay is not a deal breaker for me. This sounds trivial, but I hope the bezel matches the "Volcano Grey", or whatever the name of the color is that we have on the center control stack on the .1's

I have the iSimple Tranzit Blu HF installed on my stock PCM and it's an acceptable for now. I don't have the CD changer, so the LApower was not an option for me without going to the dealer to have the PCM re-coded for the disk changer. The Tranzit Blu uses an FM channel, and therefor the music I play with my iPhone sounds like a good FM station, not a CD or true Bluetooth streaming. The phone call quality is OK at best.

Anyway, hoping the PCCM+ for the 997 is a winner, and is released sooner rather than later.

Bluetooth was released in 1999, bluetooth 2.0 was 2004, thats older than 997!!! Thats why wireless carplay is a no go or suuuper slow at best. Also no FLAC support? The unit looks good cosmetically but seems like its an outlet to move dated cutrate hardware.

I'm old-school, and deaf to boot, and I like buttons instead of trying to find something on a touch screen. Does anybody have anything bad to say about the OEM units that came with the car? Seems that they had buttons and NAV, did they have bluetooth?

Does anybody have one they'd like to part with? My unit is a Pioneer that doesn't even have a CD slot (yes, I still use CDs, too.)

I bought a Gooinng Bluetooth FM transmitter BC49BQ on Amazon that plugs into the lighter adapter for 21.99. It is easy and works surprisingly well. I can play music from my phone through the stereo speakers and have hands free phone access. I can even charge my phone through a separate port, but can use the system wirelessly through bluetooth without charging or hooking up my phone.

This little unit is much better than I remember when they first came out 15 years ago when there were no other options. There is no hum or buzzing.

I have my "temporary" solution for now. I will see what Porsche comes out with next year regarding a full head unit replacement.

QUESTION.......... for my 2006 997.1 with Bose, will a radio/NAV that came from a car with Steering Wheel controls work on my car that doesn't have that? I'd assume that there's just another cable from head unit to the steering wheel, but can somebody say Yea or Nay to it?

If you are talking about my head unit...my car did NOT come originally with steering wheel controls, those came on the new steering wheel I just installed.

My car came with an FM Modulator already in it. Have to say...works perfectly. I can play whatever I want from my phone and the phone feature works great somehow using the internal mic from the car and all sound through the speakers. I do have to turn up the volume a bit to hear better when using the phone though, not a big deal. Car is at installer now for an Alpine head unit and backup cam. And as expected, having huge issues getting the new multi function buttons to work on the new steering wheel. He's going to try NavTV today if he can get his hands on one. If it doesn't work, then I don't really care that much.

I have done some research and the Porsche Classic radio solution for the 997.1 models has been pushed back to 2023.

I did buy an FM modulator and it works great; better than what I remember years ago. For $20.00 I have a blue tooth hands free iPhone access and can use my iPhone Sirius XM app to play music through my stereo speakers. I can even charge my phone if needed through a USP port.
