Default Water pump service cost?

Hi all,

Looks like its time to replace the water pump on my 07. What is the going rate for swapping out the pump, low temp thermostat, belt etc?.

Thanks!

Not sure what the difference in cost is between a 997.1 and a 997.2. The pump failed on my -09 C4S and trashed the serpentine belt along with it. Total cost for pump and belt replacement was around $1,200 as I recall it. Covered by warranty. Not sure if they addressed the thermostat but I have to think that would be the least expensive portion of this whole thing whether they did or not.

How many miles on your car and are you seeing coolant on the garage floor? Just asking since it sounds like you're replacing the pump and the belt out of caution. Mine failed at 43,000 miles which I think is on the early, low mile side. Have 67K miles on my current GTS with the original pump and belt.

Ran about $1300 on my '06. Included water pump, thermostat, belt and labor. Had about 50K miles

I also recall mine being about $1,300 for the pump, low temp thermostat and new fluids.

What circumstances call for preventative replacement?
miles, years?

Good question. My best guess would be miles since I see it as a wear and tear item. Still covered by warranty though if you have a good one. Another reason for miles is a number of posts here of busted water pumps between 40K and 60K miles including my own on the -09 C4S at I think 43K miles. So based on that I'm on borrowed time with 67K miles on the pump on my GTS. But with Fidelity Platinum warranty I find it hard to replace it preemptively at $1,300 rather than waiting for it to fail and just pay the $250 deductible.

If I had plans for a long road trip I would probably rethink this though. With local driving, if it fails I have a flatbed take it to dealer and call my wife to pick me up. Big deal.
