Default 997 over revs

Hi everyone,

Found a 997.1 S that I was looking into buying. Did a PPI and it found approximately 2000 range 1 over revs. 300 range 2. And 7 range 3.

I'm guessing that's not great and I should pass, but I don't know enough about this that I thought I'd ask here. Any thoughts?

That car is still a virgin. Whoever owned before did not enjoy it properly nor did they rev it out enough. How many miles and how long ago were those ranges recorded? This report would not scare me one bit, but that's just me.

50 hours ago, so approximately 1600 miles.

I would not even kind of trip on that rev report...especially with that much time elapsed since.

Number of ignitions / 3 = number of engine revolutions

Number of revolutions / 7200 = minutes spent at limiter

Minutes spent at limiter x 60 = seconds spent at limiter].

The numbers in 3 was less than a blip. It was probably not even worthy of calling a mis-shift.

That car needs to be driven much harder. Shame the previous owners didn’t enjoy her like she was meant to. There is no concern with that report.

I wouldn’t let that scare me away. A forum member did a test and registered 1,2,&3 just by hitting the rev limiter in first gear.

here are a couple good threads. One is from a member who did an experiment with car in first gear and just ran it up to the rev limiter and fuel cutoff. His dme recorded range 3 from the simple test.

another thread shows how you can actually calculate time spent in each range with a formula.

regardless.... my dme report looks like a bachelor party night in Bangkok, compared to yours, and I enjoyed every second of those revs

Read this - https://911virgin.com/engine-revs/

Range 1 and 2 are below the rev limiter on a 997,2 I would not have any issues with that report
