Default Bad Turbos?

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I just got back my 2009 997 Turbo from a rather expensive engine out service during which the cams and coolant fittings were pinned, some hoses were replaced, new spark plugs, some O2 sensors and air flow meter, and some smog equipment was reinstalled (I’m unlucky in that I live in a county that requires emissions inspections and that equipment was removed when my car was tuned by the previous owner). While driving the car from the shop, I immediately began hearing a consistent whine that would spin up and slow down as I accelerated and decelerated. When I got home, I started researching potential reasons for the noise. Based on what I found, it seems to be the turbos, specifically the compressor wheel could be damaged. The next day I went back to the shop for an unrelated quick fix and asked the mechanic about the noise. He basically said, “one of your turbos could be starting to go”, and he left it at that. So my question is, could something have happened to one or both of the turbos during the engine out service? I know both turbos were removed to get to the cams and then reinstalled. I had never heard the noise before the car went into the shop, and now it’s driving me crazy. I have a full Fabspeed exhaust and headers on the car and I can still hear the noise. Is this something the shop could have inadvertently done? What would you all do? Thanks for listening.

Might want to ask in the 997 Turbo forum:

I'm betting they didn't get one of the intercooler pipes attached correctly. Are you low on boost too?

I’m really hoping that’s the case! It’s tough to tell if boost is low right now, as the car is tuned and when the engine out service took place it wiped the electronic boost controller I have. The car is running at stock boost at the moment vs the 21psi it had, so definitely no where here the power it had going into the shop. I’ll definitely take a look at the intercooler pipes to see if there’s a leak somewhere!
