Call your Porsche or Mercedes dealer and ask the service manager who they use for ws replacement on the customers high end cars. I’ll bet it’s not Safelite. Specify P OEM glass not aftermarket. Your insurance is paying so it is not the time to be thrifty.

2009 C2S 170K miles

Ask your insurer if you have OEM glass replacement. Some policies do not cover OEM glass. Ask them if they will cover a Porsche dealer doing the replacement. If no to these, I would then ask what is the incremental cost to you to have the Porsche dealer do the work (they sub it out but back it). Then I would pay the delta. Google me, Rennlist, and glass... got some horror stories. I will never have Safelite touch anything of mine... they lie.

Peace

When my windshield needed to be replaced I was coached to only let Porsche do the job. At the end of the day you do not want to hear road noise or have glass that has waves in it. Here is a copy of my estimate. I have State Farm and I requested Porsche only to do the job. State Farm challenged it however they could not find a company willing to do the job do they happily let Porsche handle the job. Subject: Windshield replacement estimate
Hello Mr. Clinton,

Here's an itemized estimate for the windshield replacement on your 2005 911:

Windshield: $914.80
Adhesive for rearview mirror: $38.56
Outer seal for around windshield: $165.73
Adhesive for windshield itself: $371.66
Total parts: $1490.75

Labor: $842.70
Shop charges: $34.13

Subtotal: $2367.58
Taxes: $171.65

Total: $2539.23Chris Cossey

Porsche broke the windshield on my old cayman trying to replace the rear view mirror. I got Porsche glass but they subbed out the install. Install wasn’t done properly. New glass. New install. I’d be pretty particular about the glass that goes in these cars.

From how they remove the old glass, to how they remove the adhesive to installing properly. I’d definitely try to go with a place that is going to do it right the first time around.

There is nothing really special about Porsche.... however an installer didn't set the glass in deep enough... nor sure how that was possible, but he did. The bigger issue is the glass... and that is the Saint Gobain maker and then the Porsche P logo. BTW, my windshield... third one... is exactly marked as yours. No more crap Chinese wavy glass for me... ever.

Peace

I went to Porsche dealer nearby. They told me of the glass company they use exclusively. Geico approves of the glass company, $501 deductible. Glass guy told me windshield will be around $1000, wondering if my deductible is all I will need to pay?

I would also consider where you live and the road conditions where you drive. I live in Houston and it seems that every major highway and freeway is under permanent construction with rocks being kicked up frequently. My last 911 windshield made it about a year before having numerous star cracks and small pits. After asking my mechanic for a glass recommendation he advised that if you are going to drive your car frequently in our area you should treat your windshield as a wear item - meaning don't pay a significant premium for OEM glass if there is a high probability of repeat damage. As a result I used one of the local glass supply businesses and had them install Chinese glass. Was it perfect? No, but it didn't leak or vibrate and had no distortion. I did have to add black silicone around the edge to get a smooth transition to the body but ended up with decent windshield at less than a quarter of the price of OEM glass.

My current windshield is starting to get pitted so will probably follow the same path as my last 911. Not worth it to me to pay for OEM glass. That said, I do understand that replacement may also be determined by your insurance coverage.

Now if I lived in a different area and didn't use the car as my DD, I would treat the windshield as a permanent replacement and spend (or insure) at a different amount.

Small world! I bought the 2010 C2S from Momentum Porsche in Houston, my third from them. Car is daily driven in Sugar Land and surrounding areas. This is my first windshield break since I started driving the 911 here since 2010, when I bought my 2000 C2.

usually, no matter who replaces the windshield, they all get them from porsche, because no other mfg is licensed to make the windshield. Sekurit is usually the stamp, but Pinkington is owned by Sek so they have some stamps on certain models. I think it is a age determination of when the license run out

I beg to differ. I think Fu Yao make the cheapest windshield for 997. Contrary to what the brand conveys, Fu Yao actually makes their windshield in USA, not China, and a lot of repair shops will use Fu Yao windshield. Here is a horror story about not replacing the windshield right:

part 1

part 2

Make sure you watch part 2
