Default Who was looking for the MAF rubber boot?

I recall a post recently about someone with a cracked rubber boot that covers the MAF sensor connector.

I was working on my car and was able to get a part number and did a quick search and found it’s made by Bosch.

Thanks for the Bosch part number. Unfortunately, you would have to disassemble the connector to get this boot installed. The small end of the boot for the cable would not fit over the large end of the connector. This would include removing the pins and wires, buying new pins and reinstalling the pins/wires once you had the boot installed.

That is why I went with a heat shrink boot.

Oh, I was thinking that if you slide the boot over some needle nose pliers then open the handle. That would stretch it enough to slide it overs the connector.

Thanks for the part number!
It's gonna be nearly impossible to wrap it over the connecter without removing the pins huh. Damn PITA.

You can try buying one but I doubt it would stretch that much.

When that time comes, I'll try that approach. I've used (expandable) needle nose pliers to open up grommets and sleeves but haven't tried this particular one.

Since mine is still in good condition, there is no need for me to replace it. I was just passing along the info.

The narrow end won't fit the connector plug - no way - but IF you can unpin the wires from the connector - easy peasy. Or I guess we can cut the wires and reconnect them. Again, PITA.

Wrap 3m rubber electricians splice tape. Not the vinyl regular electrical tape.

Hey there,

Is that photo of the MAF boot and engine bay from a 997.2 Carrea or S? If not, what model is it?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't like the look of the heat shrink boot so I did some more research and found the correct boot for 997.2 cars. It is Bosch part# 1928300571. The only place I could find the part was on Ebay from a Latvia seller.

I also learned how to depin the connector and reassemble. I bought a depinning kit and used 2 of the flat pins to insert in the slots on either side of the pin. Just push the 2 pin tools as far as they will go into the slots and the pin will then pull out the back.

Here are some pictures. Back to OEM!

AWESOME Bro. I was think of the doing the same thing, but I mistakenly ordered part# 1928300572 based on the previous posts from the same Ebay seller from Latvia without realizing that it is the wrong part - lol. Can you share the following with us:

1) did you unplugged your battery b4 depinning the wires;
2) what depinning tool did you buy and where (Amazon has so many diff. types);
3) After the install of the grommet, did get any check engine lights you had to reset.

Congrats for getting rid of the eye sour!

I did not unplug the battery. Should not be a problem as long as you leave the key off when doing the wiring. No CEL.

Just bought the Amazon recommended "depinning tool". Here is a link

You tha man.
Im concern about the CEL cuz when I pulled the center pass airbag light (with keys not inserted) it still triggered my airbag CEL. I'll try without unplugging it based on your experience.
Funny cuz I was ready to order that exact set before your post, but 60 keys???? Ok, well I guess one of them surely works!
Good job.
