Default 997 Rear wing - custom made winglets

Hello folks,

Because it was difficult to find a good looking, sturdy and versatile mounting system for the rear wing on my 997 a custom made one came to the rescue.

The requirements for it were quite straight forward:
  • easy to mount onto the hinges so that no additional holes are required in the bodywork
  • no vibrations, no wiggling
  • decoupled from the actual rear wing, so that if I want to replace it with another I can do that without much struggle
  • the shape should allow the original electronic spoiler to raise and lower, so there is no need to disconnect the existing system
  • no scratching of the paintjob
After sharing some photos of my car here, I got a couple of questions about the rear wing and the mounting system. As such I have decided to make some more sets for you if you are interested. Don't hesitate to PM me.

Where did you get that wing blade from - I like the ingenuity on mounting the supports to the deck lid hinges!

Although why the kink in towards the center as opposed to just going straight up? We're you trying to hit existing mounting points on the wing itself?

Yes. Most of the wings I've looked at which fit well on this car have about 1.5m in length and the mounting points positioned to split the half in two, so it's easier to go with an adaptor from that point (it's going to be shorter), than connect from the edges.
The wing is a Jax performance carbon fiber wing.

I like ingenuity and attempt - I think the execution is very busy and the script awkward.

I was mocking a similar design up with my friends last month. We no longer are proceeding as I just purchased a set of these from radio_on.

I like that I can easy bolt on a wing for track events and take it off when done. I don't necessarily like the wing look for the street so this is the best of both worlds IMO.

This is definitively the way to go ;-)

Now I have to wait for my wife to forget about my numerous recent €€$$ spent on the 997 so I can spend a little bit more !

Nice work. IMO it would look much better if the supports went straight up.

You could fab up a bracket that bonds/rivets to the wing in those locations. Or call up one of the wing suppliers/manufactures (they are all in China. Alibaba.com) and have them make the mounting to your specs. Then you can sell a full setup.

FYI I don't make them anymore & I sold all pairs I had done so far to the members of this form. We can close this thread.
