Default Looking for opinions on ducktail decals/badging

Hi All,

My Getty Sport Ducktail is on its way and I'm stuck on what type of decal/badging (if any) to put on it. Having just picked up a set of Sport Classic wheels and already having the PORSCHE side stripes below the doors, I'm kind of going for the "modern retro" look with my black 997.2 C2 coupe.

At first, I was thinking of doing the full-on Carrera RS 2.7 look (see below) on the ducktail with the negative space PORSCHE decal across the full bottom of the lid and then the "Carrera RS" style decal in the lower right of the ducktail lip itself but with "Carrera 3.6" instead of "Carrera RS."

I'm now shying away from the negative space PORSCHE decal along the bottom because, one, I'm just not sure it looks as good on the 997 as it does on the older cars. On the air-cooled cars, the taillights are below the lower trunk edge and I think it flows better. On the 997, the decal would have to sit between the tail lights and I'm not crazy about how that looks on the few examples I've seen. Two, I think it would just be too many PORSCHE decals on the car since the lower doors already have the stripe decals.

I'm now leaning towards just going with the "Carrera RS" style decal and leaving it at that. Basically, the same look as this 993 below which my 997.2 is almost a clone of with it's black paint and grey lower door stripes. Even my Sport classics have the same gloss black centers/silver lip color scheme.

Curious what your thoughts would be. Forget a decal and go with a simple Carrera badge? No badge or decal at all? Thx

I’ve seen several duck tailed 997s in person and in photos. I just don’t find any decal arrangement on them to be pleasing to the eye other than the regular model designation centered on the lower part of the decklid, same as stock.

If I do a ducktail my plan’s to use a 964or 997 “Carrera” badge in the stock location.

This will be a great thread. I have a Getty Design duck tail also on my 997.1S. I originally wanted to do the Carrera S in the upper right like the photo that you provided. I just can’t decide. Currently I’m learning towards no badge at all or possibly black Carrera S on my black car.

Some examples I have collected on my search:

Complete de-badge

Stock (Black) Carrera badge in stock location:

Stock (Red) Carrera badge in stock location:

Full "Carrera RS" treatment with matte black PORSCHE and Carrera RS style decals:

I actually really like the look of the de-badged car but I think the GT3 rear bumper helps a lot to make the rear more visually interesting with the vents and slats, etc. I fear a de-badged lid with a stock rear bumper might just be a sea of black with nothing to break it up.

I don't think you could go wrong with the stock badge in the stock location. I'd either go with a black badge (like the second pic) or a grey badge to match my lower door stripes.

I like the 992 badge but my concern is that it might look too small as the area is quite large with the upward curve of the ducktail. The badges are over £200 here so not a gamble I’m ready to take I would like to see one in person first!

For now I have gone with the OEM 997 tequipment 911 badge in chrome, similar to the sport classic minus the text below.

I think the 992 badging paired with the duck tail is the perfect blend of modern and retro, and I even like that guy's white over white stripes as well!

Best of luck in your decision and look forward to seeing what you choose!

Stripes look somewhat like what was done on the 997 Sport Classic...

Great look!

Some great options here. I just placed an order for a grey "Carrera 3.6" decal which I may or may not use. If I do use it, I'm still undecided if I'll put it in the OEM emblem location or in the lower right of the ducktail kick up like the 993 above. If I don't use it, it was only a few bucks.

One thing I've noticed from all these pics is that the Getty ducktail seems to fit pretty well! The only one that looks a little off is the black 997.2 from NY in one of the above posts. All of the others look to have the same shut line consistency as the OEM Sport Classic.

I believe the 2nd pic {black car} is the way to go. Very unique indeed and you can always remove it down the road if your bored with it, but thats very stylish IMO.
I do like MYW's pic as well. Another unique look.

i agree with the large size of the entire ducktail blank "slab".

dual row of badging will work. i.e. P O R S C H E on top, and then 991Carrera S (992 style) on the bottom (I'm doing this this summer to my car).

Not the greatest pic, this is what I went with.

Still contemplating a black 911 badge and black ceramic coated exhaust tips to pick up with the Fuchs.

Consider doing the third brake light delete when doing a ducktail, the part is about £200 and can be bought from Porsche direct.
