My repair started at $5500. After bumper removal - $12000. Recovered $5500 on diminished value with NJM insurance. A real battle. Best thing I did was get Porsche dealership to write trade in value before and after accident and submitted it to NJM. But I was turned down a number of times and then they tried to pay me very little which I didn't accept. . It was a huge effort. I also hired a company for broiler plate documents to submit. I finally got NJM to get serious when I threatened to sun the owner directly for $10K. That got NJM moving!
The cost of the repair was just over $16,000 and if memory serves I received close to $6,000 in diminished value compensation after submitting the appraiser's opinion to the driver at fault's insurance company. No discussion, no effort, no battle. Nothing. They just read the appraiser's assessment and apparently came to the conclusion that they didn't have a good argument against it.
I have to think that it would have been a whole different process if I had asked for $6,000 myself with whatever arguments I came up with. A lot of work went into this appraiser's opinion and facts presented.

Best thing I did with my last rear end was to hire a property damage appraiser specializing in car damage. Cost me $350 but money well spent. The report he produced was around 8 pages long as I recall it so obviously very detailed and well researched.

Unfortunately my experience with a "professional" appraiser was as equally frustrating as the insurance process.
Long story short - while they did send someone out to document the car, take photos, etc. their process was nothing more than taking KBB value and slapping a 20% reduction off of that.
Mind you - this is with having shown an offer, with paid deposit, from a few months ago having a buyer at $10k more than KBB. And I had 40+ **sold** prices for 997.2 manual cars where I was able to extrapolate an equation that aligned well with how much I knew my car could fetch. The owner of the company's words were "I've been in the industry for 30+ years and you haven't, so I'm not going to waste my time looking at this".
Anyway, whatever you do avoid these assshats: https://www.autoappraisal.com

Step 2. I asked the owner of this highly recommended body shop if he could recommend an appraiser for the diminished value claim. No hesitation. He gave me the name and contact info of the guy to go to along with..... "Don't even bother with anyone else. He's the best by far".
