Default Help me decipher DME

I have found a C2S that I'm interested in purchasing however there are a few things that give me pause. Namely the over rev's plus some of the other faults. Further there is some discrepancy in the carfax about the odometer miles. The calculated mph from the dme is about 39mph - seems high. This is my first pcar and I'm hoping some of you smart people can help. Thanks in advance.

For the overrevs the key data is how long ago the range 4 event was; we like to see 100 hours or more to make sure
all is well.

The laundry list of error codes could mean nothing or a serious headache; depends on how long the car sat, the state of the battery, etc.

A PPI is pretty much essential, so that will answer the error code question.

Range 4 is only 6 ignitions, so I would ignore it.

Looks like a clean DME from my perspective.

Going forward you want to get the operating hours each ignition range occurred at.

Yeah that's how the seller sent it over to me - other dme reports I've seen have the hours at which the last ignitions occurred. The other issue is carfax flagging the car with a potential odometer discrepancy - that and the somewhat high average speed but maybe I'm being too paranoid.

Yep, I read that in reverse as 218 in range 4 . Which btw would also not worry me. So rev report is fine; indeed Porsche used to CPO cars with range 3 overrevs w/o questions asked.

It could be due to an incorrect entry, such as by a smog shop. Do the mileages before and after make sense? Post the carfax here and hide the VIN if you want.

Here is the Carfax. Total mileage on the car is listed as 86,700. Seems like a year of driving miles is missing. All opinions welcomed.

I don’t trust it based on the previous service mileage intervals. It doesn’t add up. Also, it appears they dropped it to sell it. I would pass.

Is the odometer reading a different chip than what the DME reports? The listed miles in the DME does line up.

Lots of conflicting info on the net, but it does appear it’s stored in both, and the one in DME is less due to how it’s obtained?

Thanks @southbay The real discrepancy is in the Carfax. I'm conflicted on this car since I have it secured at a good price. If the full PPI comes back good I'm inclined to pull the trigger.

You need the hours included for the overev report. If the car is not running when you pull fault codes you'll get a bunch of communication errors like that. If it's the right car at the right price, pay the few hundred dollars for a PPI to check everything out.

I agree and am getting a PPI done. I've already done a PPI on another car that didn't work out - I know it's the right thing to do when buying but I hope I don't have to do 5 PPI's before I find a decent car as it adds up!

I had to buy two PPIs and had a car sold out from under me by a dealer on a 3rd.

Then it was third time was a charm, re: a PPI.

Then I found my perfect car... a 997.2 w/43k miles for 997.1 w/60k mile money from PCA Mart.

I highly suggest checking there and if you find one get a membership to communicate.

I already had a membership so when my 997.2 was posted I jumped all over it.

Clean DME, clean PPI, smooth transaction with a Porsche enthusiast. Win win.

I am so glad I passed on those other cars!!!
