Silly I know
Not really silly.

Like you said, gas generally comes from one source, and if it's Top Tier gas, it's going to be Top Tier gas whether it's at Chevron or Costco or Shell or wherever else that sells Top Gear.

But this is true for only about ~98% of the gas that a person is pumping into their cars. The remaining ~2% is the special sauce (i.e., additives and detergents) that each branded gas stations (such as Chevron) puts into their Top Tier gas to give them (1) marketing panache and (2) brand image and (3) hopefully a better gas vis-a-vis their competitors.

Whether No. 3 above is true or not is anyone's guess.

I suppose it's the same reason some people prefer Coors over Budweiser. Both are just crappy diluted "beer" but because each has it own proprietary mix of hops, sugars, etc. they are able to market and differentiate themselves in the marketplace and create brand loyalty. But at the end of the day 98% of the "beer" from either Coors or Budweiser is essentially water and a potpourri of grains, hops and yeast.

Yes no issues with Costco...I prefer Costco as others mentioned: Top Tier and cheaper. However, when there's crazy lines, I do not wait and go somewhere else. Not worth waiting for 20 min .

While I would prefer 0% ethanol, I will be using Costco gas with 10% ethanol for the most part. It's TopTier fuel (maybe the bar is a little low for that designation) and I will be running a 20oz Chevron with Techron about every six months.

Where I live Costco is the only gas I buy and yes it's top tier but the added benefit is it's also consistently cheaper than everyone else particularly shell and chevron.

I buy Shell or if not available Chevron. That's also what Jake Raby uses. The local Dyno shop also recommends it. The car is worth the extra $3 per tank.

No, why would I wait in line to save $2?

Yes, no issues and it has a Top Tier certification. Run it in my tuned Nissan GTR with no issues as well.

Sam’s club is closer to me and minimal lines compared to Costco but I don’t think Sam’s is top tier.

any suggestion on what additives or cleaners to add every once in a while if I want to use Sam’s?

or is it just one of those things where you fuel at a real station every other tank?

How come when you look at Sunoco’s website, they claim their Ultratech gas is top tier? It’s also listed on the top tier website. I put it in my 997 occasionally when I’m not near any Shell or Mobil station.

I usually use BJs premium gas. It's cheaper than even Costx or Sams Club amd.haven't had a problem. The savings is usually between $0.20 and $0.40 per gallon.

I have no problems with it but go early Tuesday to avoid lines. Worth it with my 85 and the 20+ gallon tank.
