Always Costco for all cars. If not, I use Shell.

Yes to Costco. The price savings are worth it despite the inevitable long lines.

Do you think your 20 year old Porsche is too good for Costco gas?

This quite simple. Start with a "Top Tier " registered fuel. It has a level of additives (mainly detergents) that have been recommended by those that actually know stuff. The additives are the pricey part of the formulated "gasoline" that we buy. Once you have determined that you want Top Tier, then you get to shop for a particular brand. The brands will meet the Top Tier levels of additives and most of the time will exceed those levels. Also the chemistry within the additives varies by the manufacturers and will have differing results on the cars they are used in. From here the chemistry is far beyond a discussion on a user forum like this. Just think of the discussions about beer, motor oil , wine and car wax. It just becomes opinions.
Use Top Tier fuel. The list is easily available. As a side note to one of the above replies, Sam"s Club is NOT registered as a Top Tier.
If you cannot draw the molecule, then go with the recommendations provided.
Use premium gas for the octane rating and go drive your car. Have fun!

FYI, Sunoco is no longer "Top Tier".... they sold their retail off a while ago... most purchased by 7-11.... Sunoco's website does not mention detergents.

Peace

That's annoying, I used to seek them out for their racing connection; I guess not.

Edit: their withdrawal from TT seems to be covid19 related and might be temporary.

ALWAYS Top Tier, and usually it is from Costco. For me, it's convenient enough to pass by ours and mid-morning never seems to have any wait. At least if there is a line Costco has a defined traffic pattern, something other stations would benefit from to adopt as well.

What octane rating is Costco? For that matter, what's the minimum octane for our cars? I prefer 91 with no ethanol but is that enough?

The octane rating available varies by state. Here in California the highest is 91. Real states have premium available at 93 (some may be more, not including race or av gas).. Porsche (what do they know?) specifies 93 octane. Use the highest available in your area. Thank goodness for the guys that invented and perfected knock sensors or we would all be down 100 horsepower or more. Costco premium will be the same octane as others in your area. How a bout getting go-fast stickers to put on our windshield that says we use "Tobacco Outlet and Groceries" Top Tier fuel so we can go faster and make more power!
Cheers!

For my other cars, Costco, Safeway, Valero, Shell, Chevron, whatever makes the most sense at the time. The difference here is only about 20-30c per gallon which is $3 a tank. My time is worth more than I save at Costco waiting in line. I ONLY put Shell or if not available Chevron in the 911. One of the tuners here says they always use Shell for dyno runs because they get a few more ponies out of the car that way. Not making this up.

Long time friend and car buddy worked at BP and prior to that Arco in CA

Said that 95% of all gas comes from one main supplier and in CA that means premium is premium no matter who you buy from

That said I try to always buy Chevron for P cars and Costco for everything else

Silly I know
