Default Early Christmas Unobtainium X51 Carbon Airbox Cover for 997.2 GTS

Happy Holidays Everyone!
I got my car an early present a while back. I don't know why other than cost did the 997.2 GTS series cars have the X51 Powekit but no carbon fiber airbox cover found in non GTS cars with the X51.
Not wanting to settle for a chinese knock off on ebay, I went on the hunt.
For me, if it is not on google it is not currently findable.
Through some research I found the part number to be 997.110.232.40.
The only hit I got was an expired ebay ad from Germany.
Contacted the guy on ebay and turned out he still had it.
Although I think it is safe to assume that P-car owners are more insulated from the BS that is going around than the average person, I hope you all have a safe, prosperous, and fun 2021.

Cheers!
Fat Lou

Notice the air ducts on the plastic piece have slats whereas the CF piece have none. That is an extra 5 hp!

The filters could not have gotten this dirty in 1000 miles of driving. Glad I did not pay for CPO!

Wonder what would happen if I drove without filters?

I am continually amazed how well thought out the car is. A sieve over the intake as one last barrier to particles getting into the engine.

BMC: Choice of Champions such as myself (in my own mind)

Just want to pretend I have a GT3 RS 4.0 so I got BMCs

Very nice fit, although I thought that the hose clamps would be in the way but they tighten up and seal the filters just fine.

997.110.232.40. I dare you to find another one!

Warm winter California sun on overpriced carbon fiber...life is good.

Hope I don't get rear ended...its a good thing I don't drive the car that much.

Exclusive Powerkit...Exclusively Expensive that is...LOL

have not driven the car yet. I think the butt dyno and my ears will think they do something, but the reality is probably not.

Euro 700 + shipping and pay pal fees. Deal of the century IMO. Someone was trying to sell the 997.1 X51 carbon fiber air box cover for over $3K. Apparently the 997.1 part is still available.

The carbon is cosmetic and beautiful. Renew!
As for the BMC it interests me if there is a difference in performance. following..

That air box is a thing of beauty, congrats.
any difference in performance with the bmc filters? Or does the intake noise sound different or more amplified?

Really like the way that dresses up the engine bay - nice find.

BTW, you're low on coolant !

Ok i went out for a short drive today. My mind says there is a slight change in induction noise (extra faint buzz) and slightly crisper throttle response, but I understand that that is totally subjective and probably not based in reality. If BMC is chosen filter for Porsche Motorsport and a bunch of other race teams they are more than adequate for my use. I am concerned that reusable cotton media filters allow more particulate in in return for better flow. This is not a concern for a race engine that gets rebuilt after each event, but for a road car the potential damage may not be worth it. If I lived in a desert state I would absolutely stick with paper filters and change them regularly. I have used K&N for all my other cars and they are still running fine. I thought K&N helped the throttle response on my E36 M3 but that was in addition to a snorkel that took higher velocity air from the driver side front brake duct.

I have K&Ns on all my cars for various reasons. When properly oiled and maintained, they work just fine, as my UOA reports never show elevated silicon levels. All of them have a hydrophobic pre-filter over them that prevents them from getting saturated with water and compromising the filtering ability if driving in the rain.

And you're right that the CAI combined with the K&N does increase the throttle responsiveness and creates more induction noise. Combined with other mods like forced induction or less restrictive exhaust, they also add a little high RPM power.
