Default Finally got my first Porsche 911!

I finally pulled the trigger and got my dream car- a 2005 911 carrera last week! I’ve been looking at Porsche 911s for as long as I can remember and after finally driving one last year at the PDE I was hooked.

I searched around a while and fell in love with the classic looks of the 997 and the raw feel of it especially compared to the newer ones. I started my search for an auto but was quickly told by my wife that the car “needs” to be a manual at that age and to suck it up and learn... the dealer owner agreed... so now I have a new car that I am slowly learning to drive while continuing questioning if manual was the right call.

Anyway, still excited to finally have this beautiful car and look forward to getting involved in the Porsche club.

Congrats! I think you will love the manual. Just adds so much more to the experience of driving, and makes it more immersive. Not great for traffic and slow city driving but excels in all other areas IMHO.

Congrats! Sweet car. I have an 05 C2, but with mods. Pretty potent set up, and a blast as a daily and a weekend track toy.

You won't regret the manual. Just give it time and cut yourself some slack as you learn/adjust. The involvement it allows -- to me, no knock on PDKs -- is so satisfying.

But, holy mother, I hope you're not driving downtown every day. METRA...Chi-town traffic is awful.

Welcome aboard!

haha-
nope! I work remote and have no need to go near the city. My driving is up north to more open roads.

Congrats, man! It would be a crime against automobilia for you to pass through life without learning to drive a standard transmission, It should actually be a requirement for all drivers, IMHO, because it requires attention and involvement while teaching important vehicle control dynamics useful in all further motoring adventures. And it's a helluva lot of fun when you get some confidence. As famously written on my father's (passing) driver license road test results, circa 1956: "Smooth and safe. Speed will come."
