Default License Plate LED Bulbs - 991 bulbs in a 997 direct swap

I feel somewhat confident that 991 LED license plate bulbs (part# 1K8943021C) will fit our 997, without need for resistors. Does anyone have a 991 they can try? Looking at the Suncoast kit, I think this is all it is - a pair of 991 LED license plate housings.

Please let us know. Thanks!

Are the LED bulbs significantly brighter?

Not brighter per se, they just give off a nice crisp white light versus dull yellowish that factory incandescent bulbs do.

1. Every modern day luxury car comes with said LEDs, including 991 and 992 Porsche 911's. Again, these are not brighter, simply a different color
2. Your plate is reflective so cameras and cops pick it up perfectly fine even if you were to remove the bulbs from your license plate lights. Feel free to test it out, remove the bulbs and run a red light camera at night, haha.

I picked up complete LED licence plate units from Amazon for about C$30-40. They are the same as used on some other VW cars, so they are quite common. I'm actually on my second set - they are cheap enough to think of as disposable in my mind.

The license plate lights are the only exterior lights that are not monitored for resistance/outage by the computer, so you shouldn't have to worry about throwing a code.

If memory serves, I ordered my license plate lights from V-LED in 5k. They look and work great, and did not throw any codes. If you search by year/make/model on their website, it should pull up the correct bulbs for you.

I purchased these LED light assemblies from Amazon. Simply pop the old one out and these snap into place. They have built in Canbus as well. $17.49 for the pair with Prime one day shipping included.
