I didn't know that ALL our cars have "foldable" external mirrors!!

ROW (rest of world) cars must meet EU safety standards for pedestrian contact along with a million other details. The spring loaded mirror meets this requirement. Many high end ROW cars including Porsche have power folding mirrors. Good idea for the narrow street parking and even narrower parking spaces. As usual, here in the U S, we don't care.

That’s the problem with these. Unless you know you’ll be the only person ever to use them, consider them broken.

Didnt know that thanks👍 not that I'll fold them, but I wont panic if I happen to walk/move into them and they fold.

I also did not know, yes i was thinking the same thing, impact feature ! Nice to know.

I've always figured that if I lock them in the folded position and somebody walks into them they will break unfavorably whereas if they are in their normal position they will move a bit to absorb the blow.

Speaking of people in the USA thinking the folded mirrors are broken brings my mind to the rear fog lights ...

Funny that you should mention that. Try to find a sub $40k car that has power folding mirrors. I've been trying for a relative. Probably find a unicorn first.
