Default GURURACK hitch on 997.2

My bike hitch arrived from Oliver at GURURACK, and I had my Indy install it. Great craftsmanship and service! If you need a hitch to carry bikes, track tires etc., I highly recommend Oliver at www.gururack.com

May I ask why the decision was made not to use the standard roof rack? It would be quickly demountable without a trace. Here is a picture with mine, I was able to go 120km/h (80 mls/h) with no problems, didn't try it faster. It's the genuine Porsche-carrier with the Thule UpRide
But your carrier looks very solid!

That is hideous. While I'm sure it's effective, It seems better suited for a Rubicon.

I’ve had an accidental “run in” with a roof rack in the past, so it’s only hitches for me now. Your roof rack and car look amazing though!

Haha exactly. This rack is the best on the market. All aluminum construction, made in ‘Murica, and an ingenious design that clamps onto your wheels without touching the frame. Bikes are easy on and off. The rack is also easy to install and remove with a single center bolt, and the receiver hides behind Gururack’s custom spring loaded license plate frame.

I can only imagine how much this whole set up must have cost installed, but it looks like some very cool engineering. May be cheaper just to buy a spare ten-year old SUV for when you want to head out biking. So I guess the license plate pops up to cover it when removed? Is there any trace it's there when not being used?

It's actually a pretty clever design and mounting it to bumper structure should be pretty solid. Can't say I love what it does for the look of a 911, through a roof rack isn't much better from that perspective, but I'm also not a cyclist.

My idea of 2 wheel fun requires I leave the Porsches at home and take the pick-up.

I bought a used bumper beam off eBay for $150, had it shipped to Gururack directly, and was charged $650 for the custom work, plus $250 install = $1050. I had the rack setup from my prior car. You could choose to install it yourself (it's not hard) and save that cost, but I didn't feel like messing around with pulling the bumper, etc. I'm ham fisted and always end up breaking little pieces and swearing a lot when I try to do my own work. Plus, I wanted to make sure this install was done right, given the consequences of something going awry.

So the total cost is similar to a Porsche roof rack. The hitch receiver is hidden behind the license plate when it's not in use. No trace.

Nice bikes, that does look fun. People also use these hitches to tow a small trailer with track tires, if racing is your thing.

Also, my last 996 was a third car that ended up sitting in the garage a lot over the four years I owned it -- such a waste. I wanted to downsize to a single every day car and actually drive my 911, so the hitch is a necessity for me.

Hmmm - looks like you parked in a reserved Mini slot. Hope you don't get towed :-)
