Default 997 Knock Sensor Trouble Code

Wondering if anyone has experienced the knock sensor trouble code, warning comes on as "reduced engine power" in car. Mine is on 2009 997.2 with 40k miles. Experiencing no engine problems. Has anyone changed the knock sensors in a 997, how difficult is it a DIY job? Thank you!

What's the specific error code. Either the knock sensor itself is going bad, or the sensor is detecting knock (detonation or pre-ignition) and doing what it's supposed to and protecting the engine. What octane fuel are you running? Are you keeping the RPMs above 2,000 rpm when this happens? If a MT car, use one gear lower. If a PDK, press the sport button and see if it still occurs.

More info on the code, fuel used, has the car been driven regularly, has it occurred the first time?

Usually there is 2 of these, one for each bank and tend to sit under the intake manifold.

Here is what the knock sensors looks like. One right behind the alternator (alternator removed) and the other right behind the AOS (A/C compressor removed)

Code is P1384 Knock Sensor 1. This is on a PDK. I only use high octane gas. It started out as an occasional alert, but now happens about 10 minutes into the drive after heavy acceleration, although the car is running fine. Appreciate the pictures. As unique as it sounds it is starting to sound like a faulty sensor. Do you know what 1 vs 2 is?, behind alternator vs. behind AOS?

Thanks again!

Your engine is different than mine (I have an 05 .1 vs your .2) so your knock sensors could be in a different place. But Knock sensor 1 I'm assuming is on Bank 1 which would the the driver's side one.

Did replacing the sensor resolve the issue. I’m having a very similar problem with my 997.2 GT3. Thanks.

Update on my issue. At the end it was a rodent that chewed the wiring on the sensor connector. I replaced the connector and car was good again.

Did you have to drop engine, or could it be repaired "in situ"?

Did you switch your engine mounts to solid or semi solid? Those will set off the knock sensor and retard timing. This is being discussed on another recent post.

I've heard this as well, but it doesn't happen with my RSS mounts. Maybe the stiffer ones from other companies are too stiff and transmitting engine vibrations to the knock sensor.

Did you watch Jake Raby's video? He's been around the block more than a few times and won't allow a car out of his shop with anything but stock mounts.
