So I've been eyeballing the 991 style headlights on ebay/Amazon for my 997. I've seen different brands Spyder, ect. but I'm curious. Are they all made by the same company. Prices vary from $1100 to about $2100, yet I cant see any difference when looking closely. My car has HID and are self leveling.
I have no problem giving up self leveling and can install a nice HID kit in them. My biggest concern is QUALITY. Guess I'm looking for someone that has them and can steer me away or in the right direction. If theres a better quality brand, I have no issue paying more. Thanks

Not to push you in either direction.. But a couple of points:
* At least with the model sold on delreycustoms, you can order the bi-xenon ones (8-pin) - not the halogen(4-pin) and then transfer the leveling motor and D2S bulbs into the new assembly => so you won't lose auto-leveling
* High beams are still going to be halogen only => so they question is.. are you doing this just for the looks of the surround ring? Because the factory low beams in the xenon lights are pretty good already.. change the bulbs if they not performing well due to age.
The stock projector in the HID equipped models are pretty good already. You've already upgraded the bulbs but I'd also recommend swapping to a clean STi-R lens from the retrofitsource. It'll require opening up the headlight but you can gain even more output over the stock frosted lenses and keep the OEM quality Koito projector housings. I recall the projectors used in those 991 style lights didn't produce a too great of distribution but perhaps they've improved them somewhat. You'll want to confirm what kind of projector they're using in the d2s variants to see if they're comparable to the OE projectors.
My car has excellent light output. I rarely drive at night, at least in the Porsche, and love the look of the 991 quad projector and like the LED OEM look ring. Really would like to look into Delreys setup if they will get back with me.
Keep the original lights - they're excellent. If you want a light output upgrade, replace the projector lens with a clear one. I have that in my headlights. I actually think the illuminated ring looks too BMWish and not all that good.
I actually bought this set of lights this way from the guy on 6speed that did the conversion and made a thread about it. There might be some info in that thread if you can dig it up. It was probably in 2013 or 2014.
I posted a bit further up that you can get the STi-R clear lenses from theretrofitsource. I have two on hand that I need to install into my lights but haven't gotten around to opening them up yet.
I had also looked at these headlights, but I wasn’t sure of the quality so I decided to go for the newer Porsche 997.2 lens upgrade. While it’s not like the 991 headlights they still upgrade the front of the car without compromising on Porsche quality.
Few down sides, the cornering function doesn’t work and I will also loose the automatic headlight adjustment, no big deal I’ll just code those out.
Here are a few pics of other members who have upgraded.
I would PM this guy on Instagram- he has done exactly what you are thinking of.
I recognize those BC Forged wheels, the car and garage from previous photos...that Instagram is Peter's aka @preelude. He's done one of the best builds I've seen -- his car is beautiful (as are his photographs). I'd just PM him for more info.
