Default Shifter Boot

My leather shifter boot doesn't stay up on the shifter? I think it is the round clip that is broken. Does anyone know the part# or how to fix the issue?
Thanks!

There is some information in here.... probably not broken, just a pain. Any post that deals with shifter removal deals with this issue.

I did a quick look into the parts catalog for my 997.2, looks like you need to buy the shift **** and boot as an assembly.... no individual parts. Zip tie below sounds real attractive if indeed it is broken.

Peace

pull up the shift boot, tuck in the entire shift boot top inside out for a small portion and zip tie it to the collar. Reassemble. You dont have to worry about the plastic piece the holds it smashed in between another plastic piece then.

If it’s the plastic piece that’s broken, you could also buy the cheapest 987/997 shift boot you can find on eBay and use the plastic pieces from that.

It may also just be that the shift boot was detached from the **** - it’s a quarter turn connection, so maybe that turned 90 degrees and came off.

In my humble opinion you are in great luck. you just don';t know it yet. Go to the Function-First web site and purchase one of there aluminum weighted shift *****. This will be terrific improvement in "feel" of the shifting motion. The difference from the lightweight plastic OEM setup will be astonishing. With theie shift **** setup you do not use any of the OEM plastic parts, just the boot that you have. I am not affiliated with F-F but a satisfied customer.
In the post above from F-F on helping you on finding the plastic part, they have shown themselves as perfect gentlemen (gentlepersons?) in not trying to sell you their product. But they should have as it is the perfect solution. pick out the style and color and you will never look back!

I appreciate that!! I’m working on another production run of the black aluminum *****, but I do have silver aluminum and black Delrin in stock right now. Add shift pattern engraving for an OEM look. These will add some weight and definitiveness to the shift action, and IMO feel and look much higher quality vs the factory ****. It is the centerpiece of your interior, after all!

I don’t yet have videos, but the install on the 997 does not require cutting the shift boot.

Don't cut anything! That is one of the beauties of their setup. The process is completely reversible back to stock , however you will never do that. On their website go to the bottom of the page and click on the "instructions"" which is a PDF writeup with pics. Make sure you go to the area for 997 , as the other models, pre and post 997 have different procedures. For the 997 you do not cut the boot. Read the instructions several times and then again and give it a go. The biggest deal you will encounter is getting the OEM shift **** off . There are numerous videos and write ups on how to do this. Do a search on Rennlist or gooogle. Once you get the OEM **** off, the PDF instructions will show you how to install the new one. Then go drive the car, you will be a happy camper.
