Bethesda Maryland Help
I drove from Lorton, VA to the hospital in Bethesda to take over a shift for my wife who has been staying with our 7 year old daughter in oncology. However and whatever happened I arrived at the parking garage to find that my 05 997 with almost 200k was hemorrhaging coolant badly. Probably the result of not being driven much since I went on telework in March. I'm trying to have an open mind about breaking down so far from home as there might be a better option for repair here than in VA. Can anyone point me toward a reputable indy shop here in the MD area? I'm trying to avoid the dealerships as I am an enlisted active duty military guy. When your salary is a matter of public record its safe to say you aren't making a whole ton of money.
I appreciate any pointers the community can offer. Thanks!

Probably just as hose with such a sudden purge of coolant. Get in there and poke around. These engines are not hard to work on. You can likely locate the hose, change it with basic hand tools and refill with ease!

Can't help with indy shops in that area, even though I have family there, but I do wish a full, complete, and speedy recovery for your 7-year-old daughter in oncology. All hugs and positive energy!

Sorry MGuns as I'm not much help being on the other side of the country, but prayers up for your little girl and thanks for your service. Let us know how it goes as we ought to be able to find someone on these boards in the area who can help you out. Also, please post what the shop says as at a minimum we can help sanity check it.

I'm not in the habit of turning away help for my daughter. I have gotten some good feedback and offers to help troubleshoot and repair from the community here as Rennlisters again proven they are good people but the car has to take a backseat with my time right now. I will certainly let everyone know what this turned out to be. Thanks so much!

Absolutely...anything besides the health of your child is low down on the list of importance. Cars come and go...family is everything. Prayers for your daughter as well as you and your wife.

First and foremost, thank you all the Rennlisters for the advice, offers of help, and encouragement for me and my family. As for the misfortune that started this thread, the diagnosis was a failed water pump. It turned out that there was a Porsche specialist barely 5 miles from my home in Virginia. I linked up with Kevin Fox of RPM Performance in Lorton, VA and he took care of the car in no time at all. It was delivered after hours yesterday (more on the tow in a minute) and was finished around 2:30 this afternoon. A lifelong Porschephile was my ride and he was giddy at the nerding out on all things Porsche that ensued including the multiple models and generations of cars around the garage. Keep in mind my buddy grew up riding in the back of a German car much like Jeff Zwart and he grew up around things like the 906 and 917. Even with that kind of experience the proprietors of this shop impressed him. Bottom line, the service isn't inexpensive on these cars but it was top flight in this case.
As for the tow, you get what you pay for guess. USAA was great and showed real follow through but the company they dispatched lacked basic customer service. without all the gory details I waited 10am to 3 pm for the truck to arrive.
If you are in Northern Virginia and need service for your P-car, of any vintage, I would recommend you check out RPM Performance.
