Default 2011 911s Replacement tires

My car has 26k miles on it and is not a daily driver.

This is a recommended tire, but I’d really like to get more than 5k miles.

The cup2 is mostly a track tire is it not? Most of the squad here like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Or PS4S for short.

Help?
PS4 S, weekend canyon carver 150 mile loop each day at ACH, and occasional track day HPDE I get about a year and change on the tires before the inside fronts show wear and start to feel weird.

The standard Pilot Sport Cup 2 is a streetable track tire with a 180 wear rating. They won't last long.
If you want to drive in the rain or in cooler temps stick with
Pilot Sport PS2
Pilot Sport 4S
Pilot Super Sport
Don't ask which is better. It's like wine and women, depends on your style and preference. But, I think the consensus is the PS2 has more grip as a summer tire and the PS 4S is a better all season tire.

I've posted this before but worth repeating for someone shopping for tires. Do NOT buy these unless you want a street tire that's also good for auto cross and even the track. Great grip but noisy beyond belief. Brand new they sounded like my old Michelins with 12,000 miles on them.

I made up my mind to buy the Pilot Sport 4S, until I realized they are summer tires.

That lead me to look for All Season tires, and I have found Pirelli for the front tires, but cannot find ANY all season tires for the back.

I live in south Alabama, so it doesn’t get below 40 degrees very often.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately our sizes are not available in many true All-Season tires. Reading the tire rack review you may find several positive comments about Summer tires that perform well in the rain.
The Pilot Sport 4S is one of those, although it is listed as a Max Summer tire.

@Sandwedge, totally agree that the Bridgestone RE-71R is not a comfortable daily tire.

I am less concerned about rain than I am cold weather.

Should I be concerned about this in South Alabama?

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support,

Tirerack warning on PS4S. This is standard for all max performance summer tires. If you car is garaged I doubt it drops below 40 very often in southern Alabama. Assuming you have another vehicle available when its below freezing I would not sacrifice the rest of the year with true all seasons.

This thread might help. Looks like PS4S's work fine in the cold as long as you're a bit thoughtful about your driving style: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-turb...-4s-tires.html

Besides that, a quick googlin' shows that 20F and lower can create potential pliability / cracking issues, especially if they're warmed back up quickly (like in a heated garage after being ice cold outside).

Good luck!

Do you drive in temps below 40F? If not, summer tires are fine.
