Default What's this?

Does anybody know what this wire is for? I was washing the car the other day and saw this wire assembly in the rear of the right, rear wheel well. It is wire tied to the chassis between the inner surface of the wheel and the engine (third picture). If I pull on it, I can touch the tire with the wire. Also, when I pull on the end going behind what appears to be an aluminum heat shield (second picture), it is loose. It feels and sounds like it is attached to a loose plastic part. The top of the heat shield looks like it was bent and curled over to allow the wire to pass, but I looked on the other side and the heat shield looks the same and there is no wire on that side. I tried to trace the wire on the other end and couldn't get very far without jacking up the car. I installed a wire tie around the upper part of the plastic, wheel well liner to keep the wire out of the way of the tire (fourth picture).

Looks like the brake pad wear sensor.

Yes, that's what I was thinking also. I don't think Porsche uses wire ties. I don't think it's a brake wear indicator wire either because as I was trying trace the wire, it was headed towards the front of the engine, not along the suspension to the caliper.

I have an aftermarket radar detector. I was thinking it may be connected to a rear detector, but the documentation I was given with the car indicated it only had a front detector. I intend to call the detector company Monday and ask them.

Thanks for your replies.

If it has a phone type connector then likely a radar hookup. At least from my experience.

Apparently, it's a rear radar detector wire. I'm surprised someone installed it in a manner that allows the possibility to touch the wheel. When the car is started, the radar system indicates one detector only- the front unit. The rear must not be working.
