Default Carbon roof quandaries

Hey everybody, i have finally collected all components necessary to complete the carbon roof/sunroof delete on my turbo.
i am a little confused as to what method of attachment you guys would use to secure the roof.

What type of epoxy would you use for this project?

thanks

I wouldn't guess, I would source the actual repair documentation from Porsche to see how they'd reattach a new roof.

Or just use the same thing the BMWs guys use. You had a CSL roof right, how did you do that one?

For an epoxy type product, 3M Panelbond. That's how we attached the flares on my widebody Cayenne TTS project. Build thread is on here.

Please document the process, been thinking about doing this too.

Like Petza said 3M panel bond seems to be the adhesive I've read the most good things about whether attaching panels, widebody flares and spoilers.

When I looked into carbon roofs for the 997, I'm sure I read somewhere that it is not recommended unless you have a full roll cage. Same with carbon doors.

I can't find the original post, but it was due to safety concerns, IIRC, and the way carbon splinters when it breaks.

Just posting in case you were unaware. Maybe someone can provide the details.

Ah ok, no problem. Sunroof delete is awesome.

I found the thread, if anyone is interested.... It's for the 996, but same for 997

There’s s drill bit made specifically for drilling out spot welds. Looks like a mini hole saw. But since you don’t need to retain the backing metal since you won’t be welding the new panel on, you can probably start with your smallest drill bit then work your way up the drill bit sizes until you out-size the weld diameter.

Another thing id like to address,

should i put the car on jackstands when doing this?
i was talking to someone and they said i MUST put the car on 4 stands to release any load/preload.
good idea or?

I have used this tool to drill out a ton of spot welds. Works very good:
https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-...ter-63657.html

I should say it doesn't drill them out it cuts the sheet metal around the weld on the first layer of steel in the lap joint.

If you put it on stands make sure the ground is smooth and level. If not you could be adding load

Piwis states that if the car is structurally sound you can remove and install a new roof panel, with the car on a level surface resting naturally on its wheels.

i am a fair way into this mod and let me tell you, it is a lot of work. Not for the faint of heart.
