Guys I'm curious about the difference in rear brake rotors. I've notice on many Pcars the rear rotors have the same directional twist as the fronts, and many do not. Mine does not. Mine is a 997.1 base model. Is it just for the S/4S/Turbo ect models? Are they different in diameter/thickness. Is it possible to install a set on mine? There's no real reason for me to have them but since I'm about to replace them anyway I thought it's a worth while question. Thanks very much.
My understanding is that all Porsche rotors are directional. Internal vanes should face away from rotation. "S" rear rotors are 330x28 in rear. Yours are 299x28. I am pretty sure there are a lot of info here for brakes "upgrade". There is nothing wrong with what you have unless you plan to endurance racing.
Just as an example, these are what my rears look like: https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/09666511
No twist. I was just inquiring before I start shopping. Would love them to match my fronts.
Just as a note, those holes on the outer edge don't go all the way through the disc. They are wear gauges. When you can't see them anymore the disc is worn out.
If you'll be pushing the car hard or doing track days, slotted rotors are better than drilled. Drilled rotors have a tendency to crack and have fracture lines go between the holes. Slotted rotors still sweep water away from the pad contact surface and keep the pad material fresh. This is what's on my wife's 05 C2S with Hawk Ceramic pads. Rear 1-piece slotted 2-piece Front Part #s - these front part #s were only for the replacement rotor rings as I already had the hats. You'd need the complete 2 piece rotor the first time and then subsequent changes you can just buy new rings
