Default First Post, first question :-)

After MUCH back and forth, reading, seeing and weighing between a 996 and 997 for my first Porsche, I have purchased a 2005 997 Carrera in GT Silver.

Finalizing the deal this week and need to coordinate transport from Ohio to NY, preferably in an enclosed carrier. Do you recommend any companies? Have seen the Montway and Sherpa were good, but was hoping to get some feedback or personal experiences.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Best,
Andrew

Congratulations! That's what I have too, with mods. It is fast and fun, and a great daily driver and weekend track beast. Yours looks great. The best transport for that car is you - one way tix to OH, then bond with it on the drive home. NYC isn't that far. Drive through WNY along Rt 5 along the lake, then along Lake Ontario. I've driven a ton up that way (I used to live south of Buffalo). This time of the year it is a great drive through the NY countryside, and there is never much traffic. You could be out and back in one day easy.

If you must ship, I've used Intercity 2X, and they are fantastic. Enclosed and they actually wrap the car. Not much more than anyone else either. Also, they are Rennlist sponsors, so ask for the renny discount (it's like 5%). Relaible is also very good for transport.

Ted O'Brien at Hanover Transport. 508.731.0774. Not sure he’s still there, but company was, at least pre-cv. Had couple posters get back to me after using them and were also happy.
Had stressful experience with wife's X3 from Chicago to tx with different company. Purchasd of 911 cab in North Carolina 4 years ago and used Hanover. Totally great experience.
Will use them again for any car shipping needs.
I have no affiliation, just very satisfied customer.

I will second ManoTexas, I used Hanover and everything was good. They had some pretty rare stuff on the carrier when they dropped mine off. No problems, I used Mano's recommendation. When I called intercity and reliable they were like 6 weeks out just to pick up. Hanover picked it u the next day and did it in like 5 days. CT to south Florida.

Just had mine shipped from the dealer in Rochester, NY to VT. Everything was fine but, yeah, I think @linderpat is spot-on...flights are cheap (especially one-way), as are masks, so do a fly 'n drive if you can.

If not, any of those other recommendations by Rennlisters are good. @63mercedes is right about Reliable and Intercity: If it's not on their normal routes, it will take some time, though OH to NYC may be one of their routes (I-80).

Looks like you bought a nice example! I'm wish you many fun miles behind the wheel!
I agree with Linderpat, drive it back rather than having it shipped.

Better off with a one way rental car than flying.

Welcome. And if you occasionally find yourself peeking at it in the garage late night. It's OK, we've all done it.

Congratulations. Very nice. And you won't regret the 997 instead of a 996. As for transport, I agree with those who suggest you drive it back home yourself. It's not that far of a drive and I promise the drive will be a thrill you'll enjoy every mile of. I've done it. If you don't have time for that, definitely use enclosed. It's a little more than open transport but worth every penny as far as I'm concerned. Some good recommendations here already including a RL sponsor. So many of them and I can't recall reading about an enclosed transport messing up a car.

For my GTS I used an enclosed transport recommended by the dealer doing the PPI. They told me they had used him for years for all kinds of high end Porsches and also told me I would laugh when I saw him arrive. They were right. Seriously I was thinking?? A beat up Ford F250 pickup with an equally beat up one car trailer behind it. But 100% professional. He had done a VERY thorough walk around of the car before loading it and made a mark of ever the slightest bug he found to the point of almost overdoing it. Car was flawless as was his operation and price. Paid $625 as I recall it from Ohio to southwest Florida. That's what some of the big names charge for open transport for the same distance.

Point being.....no need to pay outrageous money for enclosed transport by the big names if that's the route you choose. I'll use the pickup guy with his trailer again no matter what car I'll buy unless I drive it home myself.

x2. I love to buy cars this way. I live in Miamibeach. I bought my 997.1 in Nashville. Owner picked me up at airport. Drive 20 min to his bank. I was on my way 30 min later, drove it to the tail of the dragon, then down through Atlanta and home. I have fond memories of the trip home on multiple cars. I now almost seek cars in locations I want to bring them home from. I once bought a car in Savannah GA with a bad starter motor and drive it back without turning it off.

Default Thanks!

Thank you everyone! My preferred option is too fly and drive, but I don't think work/time will allow. I sent quote requests to Intercity and Hanover.

Can't wait to get it home and start enjoying. It's going to be a daily driver for me.

Keep you posted on its arrival!

Congratulations on the car. Looks like a great one.

I would recommend that you prepare in advance for the delivery by creating an inspection checklist. When the transport pulls up with your new car on it, emotions will be in high gear. It will be easy to overlook an issue unless you're very organized and methodical about going over the car in detail. (You have to do this before the driver departs - because you have to sign off on the bill of lading which the driver will take with him. Once you sign off on that, the car - and any possibly unidentified damage is then 100% owned by you.)

You'll need to check everything on the car - cosmetic and mechanical. If something does not work - it needs to be noted on the bill of lading sheet. If something is damaged - paint scratch, door ding, whatever - you'll need to note it.
Same thing for the undercarriage of the vehicle. If the car is carelessly loaded or unloaded, damage to the undercarriage can occur. Having a detailed checklist and going through it in a disciplined methodical way will ensure that you don't miss anything.

Hope all goes well with the transport and delivery. Enjoy the car.
