Default Can you ID this engine part?

Was looking under my 07 997 C4 and noticed this very rusty part, see image below. I think it's the part I circled in red in the other photo.

What is this? Is this rusting normal? Concerning? Any info is appreciated.

That looks like the tandem pump 99710702201. I think rusting is normal - especially in areas where roads are treated with salt. Yours looks really rusted though - not sure if they're susceptible to rusting to the point of pinhole-ing.

Mine’s rusted like that as well, and the car is not winter driven. An accidental sacrificial anode.

I wire brushed mine as well as I could and coated it with POR-15. Still looks horrible, but no leaks...yet.

Always bothers me when I see one rusty part like this, especially when you read about the occassional total brake failure when the tandem pump goes:

Anyone replace it without pulling center / cross pipe exhaust off? Was it a bear to get to the bolts / difficult to extract? The pump is only about $200 plus a couple o-rings, and from what I read you don't need to drain the engine oil.
