997.2 steering dead on center and wandering
Hey guys, I’ve been having a bit of a small dead on center feel in my wheel along with some wandering at higher speeds above 90. I first thought it may have been my shocks since they were shot so replaced them with coilovers and added a bump steer kit. This only made it more noticeable.
has had an alignment and corner balance recently.
the car only has 55k miles.
could the steering rack be going bad?
thanks in advance.

Currently running on ps4s tires less than a year old with kw v3 coilovers. I have them set to Kw’s recommended specs.
what I’m having happen is I’m having to provide a lot of input into the steering in order to keep the car straight and a lot more so than other 997s I’ve driven. At higher speeds it feels like I’m being pulled either right or left

This should also be causing a weird tire wear pattern on the front. Are the tread blocks sharp on either the leading edge or trailing edge of each tread block, especially at the edges of the tire? Any cupping along the circumference of the tread if you slide your hand around it?

Once you fox the suspension issue, swap the tires to the opposite sides to even out this wear. Might be a little bumpy at first as you reshape those sharp (now) leading edges).

I think I can actually see what I describe in your pictures. Looks like the trailing edge of the outsed tread blocks are pointy and the leading edges of those blocks are tapered toward the rear.

so you’re thinking lower control arms?

I can't recall if the bearings on the 997 can be tightened like those on my 928. On the 928, there's a pinch bolt that holds the bearing nut tight so you can loosen the pinch bolt, tighten it to the bearing, then retighten the pinch bolt. That's a feel adjustment where you snug it down, then loosen it up a little so it's not too tight or too loose.

Update time
somehow the tech who was working on my car at the Porsche dealership I used to work at forgot to tighten down the outer tie rod ball joint when he installed my bump steer kit.
not sure how the hell that got missed

I know there was a definite fix to this issue, but doesn't the 911 steering get light under acceleration due to the weight of the car being shifted rearward? the essence of the 911 driving experience but also why some prefer the 4 models for the extra weight on the front wheels and more traction.
