Question Power Steering - Fluid res too full

Hello, 997 braintrust !

I am new here, i just recently picked up an '07 C2S and have noticed at low speed (when pulling into and out of garage) that there is a LOT of groaning noise from the front end of the car.
I suspect power steering as i don't really hear it at speed and i don't feel anything through the wheel (as i imagine i would if it were binding shock strut bushings).

After doing some searching on this forum and the general interwebs it seems like LOW fluid level could cause this noise due to air in the system.
So, i did a check. Stone cold (engine off for over 24hrs) and started the engine up, let idle for 20-30 seconds, then shut off, and checked level of PS fluid.
Both times, i got a fluid level that was above the indicator, both for cold and hot (meaning overfilled) ... see below photo.

So, now two questions:
  1. Can overfilled PS reservoir cause noise during PS use ?
  2. Can overfilled PS reservoir cause damage to PS system ?
  3. How best to remove excess PS fluid from reservoir ? (i assume it has something to do with this 'port' on the upper right of the res)

Many thanks, in advance.

_ Garrett

dollar store turkey baster. My overfilled tool of choice.
even a straw, with your thumb overt the end? dip in, thumb over end, lift out, release in a cup, repeat.

Hah, okay, so right down into the fill opening... no need for the side-port to draw fluid out.
I've got a turkey baster that can be deployed on this ... thanks

When I end up at a bar that's doing those shots from syringe with a large opening, I put a couple into my wife's purse - we live near Clemson BTW so that happens from time to time

Add a short section of hose to the end when you get home and you have a free fluid extractor with a decent size opening that's perfect for jobs like this or pulling a little oil from a dirtbike fill port if you happen to overfill it, or adding some Marvel Mystery oil into spark plug holes on an engine that has sat for years before you give it the first start for a bit of top end lubrication.

Quick update.
Pulled about 3/4 cup of PS fluid out to where it read properly on dipstick... PO must not have understood how to properly fill.
Now the noise is gone !

Cheers !
