I understood the question as: did the factory Aerokit cars lip come black or paint matched when new? In which case I’m pretty sure the answer is painted. I think GT3s came with black lips on their “Aerokit”.

 

They came like the picture above, not painted but a gray plastic. Looks black with plastic detailer on it. The one above is a brand new factory lip, paint would last about 5 seconds on it.

 

No, What I’m saying is the cars that were delivered with an AeroKit installed at the factory had painted lips to match the rest of the car, not black lips. I took off my painted lip and put the black lip on.

 

True, the bumper and lip are a gray color in OEM form but the question was for factory equipped 997 with the Aero kit package and the lip color. The lip was color matched. Since they get chewed up easily, most replace it with the black GT3 lip.

 

I’m not trying to argue at all. But It doesn’t come the same paint ready gray as the bumper. I just bought a new set from Porsche.
All the stock cars I’ve seen or factory images I’ve seen it’s gray or looks grayish because of plastic conditioner, maybe there was an option for paint matching? My Cayenne had that.


ohhh I see, just re read what you said (aero kit 997 lips) not gt3. Now I understand. My bad!! lol

 

Yeah, I think the original question (probably a page back by now) was inquiring if when new, did Aerokit cars come with matching painted lips or black. I have heard numerous times that when replacements parts are ordered from the dealer that they come in gray. I do not dispute that at all.

 

Thanks guys. I am getting a new lip and planning on keeping it black.

 

My painted lip lasted about 2 days when the car was at stock height. It was replaced with an ebay black lip. Applied a coat of ceramic to it and it has a nice shine now.

 

Probably why gt3 lips are bare plastic, they are much lower than a regular 997

Yes correct, Gyeon G2 Ceramic coating. Do not use it on the OEM black plastic lip but the Ebay/aftermarket FRP plastic it works well on.

 

I feel like ceramic coating a plastic splitter is kind of silly. I’m not sure I see the benefit there.
