New Guy and first P-Car
Hi All,
So, I got bored a few weeks ago and brought my first Porsche. It’s a ’05 997.1 base with 36K miles. It passed the PPI with only some minor maintenance needed (oil and filter changes), slow opening top and new tires. I did the maintenance myself to get to know the car and was relatively simple. I added hyd. Fluid to the Cab top reservoir but didn’t help. Might not have added enough? It also appears my oil pressure sending unit is going bad as most of the time it is stuck at 5. This is at idle with hot or cold engine. I’ll have these item checked at my local Ind. Porsche shop. I think I have been lucky to find a good one but only time can tell.
I must say for my first Porsche I love it, quick, fun, handles great with the new PS4 tires and just a joy to drive. So far I am really impressed with this car. I am planning some exhaust mods in the near future but need to finish re-powering my dang boat first.
Anyhow wonderful to be here and keep learning about these cars.
Thanks Terry,

Nice! Welcome to the p-car world. It looks like a good one. Full leather option, and love the wheels.

I would check the IMS SOlution site and see if your ims was done. Also check the date codes on the tires, my new to 07' has oldish rears. Couldn't tell but you should have sub in passenger footwell. Also extra 12 volt is down there.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Thanks I'll check IMS site but pretty sure it isn't done. Yeah the tires were a mismatch from 6 to 9 years old so replaced all. New tires greatly improved ride and handling. Good tip on the sub location, my PPI checked it as working good but I didn't inquire as to where it was on the vehicle. I will be checking the oil pressure sensor next as I don't trust it.

Your oil pressure sounds ideal. It should normally read 5 Bar at startup and then once the oil is warm (200 degrees) it should drop to around 1.5 ish at idle. The it should climb back up to 5 when revs hit around 3500. In these cars the oil pressure is related to rpms. To check your sending unit, turn the key to accessory mode w/o turning it over and if the needle is pegged at 0 it's fine. if it bounces around even though the engine isn't running it's bad.

Weather is wonderful here and can't wait for the next road trip.
