The 996tt is a great car and the Mezgers are great to tune. I drove 3 from 2001 through 2008. I have nothing to say but great things about the car and used mine as daily drivers. The interior never bothered me in the slightest and I think the Turbo actually looks great with the wide body, inlets and the retractable spoiler and is every bit on par looks wise with my 2012 GTS. Me personally, I would take a 2005 996tt S over an 997.2 S. That said, I do not like the narrow body, NA 996 at all.
The 996tt is a blast to drive. Very usable torque around town and comfortable and fun whether in stop and go traffic or blasting through the back roads. The Mezger engine is amazing. I had one one up to 750hp (internals, hybrids and GT2 ICs), one was a RUF 550 and the one I had the longest was bone stock. I put 68k miles on the stock engine between 2004 and 2008. Super reliable and we still cannot say for sure our 9A1s are going to be reliable long term. Except that I really do not want an older car as my daily driver, I personally think it would be a toss up between my 2012 997.2 GTS and a 2005 996tt S, but I would definitely take any more recent turbo (965, 3.6 T, 993tt or 996tt) over a 997.2 S just based on fun and cool looks factor.
If you value performance the decision is easy. The 996 turbo S with a mild tune/upgrades will keep up with even brand new supercars on the street or track, the non-turbo will have trouble keeping up with even modern luxury sport sedans/suvs.
I debated a 996tt or 997.2. Came close to a couple 996tts. Went with a 2010 c4s and love it.
my daily is a 2014 Audi S4 apr stage 2+, 6 spd, and it is a very quick car. Stop light to stop light it can hang with most high end sports cars. It would smoke the c4s and the low end torque of the S4 makes it feel even faster than the 911. That said, driving the 911 gives such a better visceral experience, ringing out the na engine with the sounds and vibration trumps all.
1. 996 exterior. Yes I understand the headlight hate, does not bother me.
2. 996 interior Personally I hate volcano grey more than life itself, and I don't get white gauge faces (in my 997), so 996 interior does not bother me.
I'm sure you're being a smart *** lmao but if you really want to know nothing they replaced a giant dent and was something I wanted to do. They are sealed not deep in person its obvious they are a design not a vent as they are completely flat and run with the hood, water cant even collect in them and 100% not visible from the underside of the trunk lid either definitely wouldn't be mistaken for ventilation.

WTF????
I was trying to reply to Petza but I I don't know what I'm doing on this site much like my actual life.
I want being a smart *** - just asking a question. I though maybe you ran vents down to cool the front brakes or create a vacuum behind the radiators to increase air velocity through them or something clever like that. If they're just a styling exercise, that's fine too.
I wasn't offended either way, but no this car definitely does not require any extra ventilation to cool anything off. Just a cruiser, I saw it at auction, it had clear coat peeling, dents dings, yellowed headlights and those wheels that are on it painted weird. No one bid on it so I made an offer and gave me an opportunity to have some fun making it the way It is now. I have less than 500.00 and my time in everything and its what I enjoy doing.

That RUF cab looked really nice.
Thanks. I really enjoyed that car. All of my 911 turbo daily drivers had been coupes up to that point. I put around 60k to 70k miles on this car from 2004 to 2008. The 996tts are really great cars, especially for the money now.
Assuming same color and condition, which would you choose and why?
996 turbo has a more mechanically robust engine, 997 not as much. 996 turbo coolant lines pop out, and is going on 20 years old. 997 interior much better, and headlights better. 997 more of modern style car.
I can see maintenance on a 996 increasing quite a bit due to 20 year or so age,
Must be cabriolet, manual, speed yellow exterior, black interior, would be used as a daily (20 miles a day), max price 60-70k, would replace my 07 S and my 16 BMW m4, if I did this at all.
