Software errors are literal bugs, CPU crashes, memory corruption/leaks, etc. with the code itself. An example of how that might manifest itself is the PDK control unit rebooting or getting "bricked" if the stored firmware/data got corrupted somehow (e.g. during a firmware update).

Semantics in my opinion. I think "Software failures" as it relates to PDK failures is a phrase used to point to a non-mechanical failure. Whether it's software or sensors doesn't really matter since neither is allowed to be repaired outside of Stuttgart.
