Default Another 997 Owner

So I bought my first 2007 997.1 last week. It's a beautiful 1 owner white C4S cabrio with 45k on the clock. I didn't get a PPI done on it which was probably dumb on my part. The car came with like 22 service records which were all done by Porsche. It was even in for it's routine maintenance at 40k. I called that dealer yesterday to confirm and they said they did everything which included changing the plugs. They said the guy really took care of it. Now that I've had it for a week, I see that the side mirrors and front bumper had a flawless respray or were even replaced. The wheels were also refinished and look beautiful. I have clear side indicators in the mail. Those need replaced first. I'm quickly racking up a list of things that I need to do first. Stone guards, update badge, clean in front of radiators and add grills, ceramic coating and replace the PCM. Then I will get to all the led lighting and such. And lets not forget, eventually the IMS and RMS. Porsche had no record of those being done on file unfortunately. This is my 3rd Porsche. I just got out of a Macan S. Before that I had an 02 midnight blue metallic C4 convertible for 3 years. Anyways, I look forward to all the knowledge I gain from all of you and will contribute back as I learn.

Forget the IMS (really?? its a 2007) and RMS if not leaking. Get it lowered with some Eibachs or other brand, it looks high in the back and the payoff looks wise is big. Otherwise congratulations its beautiful and just drive, get the oil changed and monitor consumption and get oil analysis. To late to worry about BS.

With a 2007 engine you likely won't want to replace the IMS bearing unless you are rebuilding the engine. The 2007 Carrera has the larger IMS bearing which cannot be changed without opening the engine case.

damn!!! Best advice ever! So funny ... yet so true sometimes.... hahahaha! Definitely, by all means... take at least 3-4 weeks of vacation from the forums each year to keep your sanity and rejuvenate before the next rounds of IMS/Bore scoring fight night!!!

You didn't mention... is it tiptronic or 6spd manual??? The only recommendation for 2006-2008 IMS bearings is to remove the grease seal on the bearing so that oil can splash onto the ball bearings. This should only be done if you have the tranny out for some reason and a "while your in there" scenario to get at the RMS seal, although on the 2007 they were probably using the latest RMS seal design by then too.

Congrats, she is a beauty!! Enjoy in good health!

Id get some stone guards on that thing in whatever color you want or get some kind of paint protection film for the rear fenders. You don't want to chew up the factory paint. It looks uncovered. Congrats and enjoy.

I haven't taken any interior shots but it's in awesome condition! I just went out and took the first one when the sun was setting. Sorry if they are enormous.

Sorry... it's a triptonic so I don't know if there will ever be any, while you in there jobs or not. The wife wanted me to not get a manual so she could take it out on occasion.

Thanks! I for sure plan to get some stone guards next. Most likely clear.

So about that bore score reading I did today. Guess what happened on the way home from work. Check engine light came on. I freaked out. I went to the shop and they checked it out. Turns out the thermostat is stuck open which came as a huge relief. He cleared the code and said it's fine to drive it until Tuesday and he will fix it then. He said it will just take a long time for it to warm up which was true. After about 20 minutes of driving it showed the oil temp as 170F.
Finished the drive home and then I got another message on the nag screen "Failure Indicator Engine Temp" and the temp gauge dropped to 0. That would be a completely different sensor and not related to the thermostat right?

On one hand I want to do just what you are saying but on the other I would like to address it eventually. Something I will have to think about out. With an almost 10% chance (I think) it could happen to me isn't a good feeling. It sucked though dropping 4k on the 996 for them to tell me the IMS was fine. When I have the extra cash around I will probably do it. I take it you haven't had it done?
